Let's welcome the next generation of Star Wars fans into this amazing game, instead of asking them to buy ships from when their parents were kids!
To get the existing pilots they'll still have to.

I don't think you understood WarlockFiretopMountain's post. He is stating, that some new players, that maybe weren't alive when the original movies came out, may not want to play the older pilots. So they may not want to get the existing pilots.Let's welcome the next generation of Star Wars fans into this amazing game, instead of asking them to buy ships from when their parents were kids!

Well tough because their the kids they get no say in it, we do what the grown ups want that's the compensation for getting old ![]()

"I don't want a competitive pilot that reduces his target's defense by 1 because he blew up the death star before I was born. Yipee. "
I could have been more specific, and said let's not oblige the newcomers to buy a core set that features 'old' ships and pilots. I don't think this is unreasonable from the point of view of marketing the sequel trilogy - and associated spin-offs - to a new generation of fans.
I agree, new fans are going to want to play the new ships. Having a core set 2, that doesn't invalidate the first, is a great idea. More dice, more templates and the new ships. The only people who should grumble are those that bought more than one original core set. But, since that was a conscious choice to purchase duplicate product, knowing such, they shouldn't get to whine.
A nice touch would be if the new X-Wing and TIE Fighters in this hypothetical new core set were actually interchangeable with the old X-Wing and TIE Fighters. I.e. you can use your Biggs pilot card in the new X-Wing model, and Finn can fly the old X-Wing. Would help compatibility between new and old players. I could buy a single new Core set, stick Finn in the new X-Wing, and his Force Awakens wingmen (we'll call them Plonko and Tub-Nub) in my old X-Wings.

Two death stars. Wedge was given credit for the first as well, everyone that survived was. Meaning wedge is the only pilot in the galaxy with two death star kills.
I strongly anticipate a new Force Awakens core set, containing the new X-Wing and new basic TIEs. Rebellion and Resistance rolled into one faction, Empire and First Order ditto. Perfect opportunity to include a revised rulebook incorporating the erratas and FAQs.
People who make this assertion about X-wing clearly have absolutely no idea how a business works, nor do they truly appreciate how little money that gaming companies actually make, even with a "best seller".

Well that told me! ![]()
Which 'assertion' did you mean? I made a few speculations there, which don't necessarily depend on each other.
Things:
1- On the subject of black TIEs versus white/grey/blue-grey TIEs... for the first two seasons of Miami Vice, "Sonny" Crocket's Ferrari ("Ferrari" - it was actually a Corvette in a body kit, because the show couldn't afford Ferraris and Ferrari didn't have any interest in giving them one, let alone the several that would be required for a film production) was black. Because the directors liked how the car filmed at night in black. For the third, fourth, and fifth seasons, they were given brand new black Ferraris... that they painted white because the directors liked how the new cars filmed at night in white better than how they filmed in black.
2- Europe continued to advance forward in technology even during the "Dark Ages". Civil technology moved forward at a crawl while military technology continued to advance in leaps and bounds - the beginning of the "Dark Ages" began not coincidentally at the same time as the Germanic Iron Age in Europe. And the crawl of iron metallurgy begun during the Dark Ages can be seen as a driving factor in society and technology from the fall of the Western Roman Empire to this day - even though much of technological development in the space age consists of replacing steel with lighter weight materials such as aluminum, titanium, and polymers. The development of newer, better, stronger steels lead to the development of longer, stronger, lighter swords, the replacement of expensive maille armor with stronger, lighter, less expensive plate armor, and eventually plowed the path to bigger, stronger guns, rail roads, iron-clad warships and dreadnoughts, and all the wonderful (ha) things we associate with the industrial revolution - it all started with the fall of the Western Roman Empire. All in exchange for giving up (mostly) indoor plumbing for a few centuries.
3- Yeah, well that's just, like, your opinion, man. Some people seem to be in danger of confusing facts with opinions and vice versa and seem to be in danger of tripping over their own e-peens. Caution is advised.

Falsehood this is one of the very few times I'd disagree with you. Not only does XWMG need a fair series of rebalances that cannot be done without errata, which is very hard to do with how everything's been sold to us thus far- you really can't... update a card for free, y'know?
On top of that, it'd be perfect to ride the Episode VII Hype wave with. XWMG 2nd edition, core set coming with new units- building upon but not wholly invalidating old ones. I'd expect new pilots for old ships as well.
It just... Kind of makes sense to do. Unless you really want Han Solo and the new guys both flying different Falcons in different factions yet alongside each other.
It's just kinda' what I expect them to do. If they don't, the starships will start getting super reachy. Another issue XWMG has is bloat. Just like Han's chubby fingers grasping desperately at his Cheetos as his ship totters around, hard to hit because his fat rolls pilot the vessel now, XWMG itself is getting **** near too many cards and not enough ships. Maybe that statement is ignorant, but it's sorta' how I feel about the whole thing.
I just don't see why they wouldn't explore the idea of a 2nd edition that's been smoothed out.
But, then again, I didn't see the TIE/pu coming.
Then paint your A-Wing green, because it's the same ship.what I want to see for the game is a green A-Wing like the one we see briefly in the Rebels season 2 premier.
I would but my painting skills are nonexistent....I haven't picked up a paint brush in about 4 years.

There aren't enough cards or ships. More is always the answer, not less.
To play the game you're required to buy the original core set. Nothing else. Episode 7 ships, if/when they come, will be expansions, not a new core set.
FFG do have precedent in this area. A Game of Thrones the Card Game switched from a CCG to an LCG format: they cleaned up a lot of the rules (and cards), but players could still mix in their old CCG cards. Then, when the HBO series came out, they released this standalone box with new art and simplified mechanics: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/game-of-thrones-the-card-game/This is just an example. I am not saying that X-Wing is going to change format, or formatting: just that FFG have previously cleaned up their games, made them more attractive to newcomers, and cashed in on an on-screen adaptation.
Obviously I'm not saying Episode 7 will DEFINITELY be a new core set, but do I think it would be a great opportunity to clean up the game space for new players, and package X-Wing as a coherent gift set to appeal to fans of the new movies.
The T70 is clearly going to be a non unique title card to rebalance every existing Xwing, just as you never see an Intercepter anymore that isnt a Royal Guard tie.
We'll ignore the continuity issues of putting Biggs in a T70.
That's not entirely true.
It's actually more unlikely to see them not running thrusters but I have seen non-RGP ones.
Some tasty new images...
Note that what looked like an antenna - is actually another gun(!)

So basically whoever was in charge of tacking things onto models is awful with the whole design principles thing.
Pointless spar geometry, the rings, inserting stretched hexagons into the engine nozzles in a sad attempt to echo the original rear-window geometry, which has been butchered...
I don't like it and probably never will.
Edited by TipperaryThe two-seater matches some scene descriptions. I'm really curious what route FFG takes to build that tie into the game. You could do a firespray-style dual arc or a crew slot. I don't think all TIE's in 7 will be 2-seaters.
I'm loving the new TIE pilot. Seems the helmet has another visor that slides down. Blast shield, maybe?
two turrets huh...i dont know how they'll stat that thing.
two turrets huh...i dont know how they'll stat that thing.
Probably the same way that statted the Millennium Falcon's two turrets. Not at all.
I don't believe this gun is meant for dogfighting. I think it's meant for use against ground targets like the Ground Buzzer that Han has on the MF and was used at Echo Base on Hoth.

Maybe attack 2, hull 4, shields 0, agility 3, with a rear arc, turret upgrade and crew? Dial like a normal tie? The top guns look small enough to be some sort of anti personnel weapon to me.
So base you'd get a TIE that can take a turret upgrade, but if you want to keep it cheap, you still have a rear arc to shoot with accounting for the side to side bind spots.
Alternatively, they could do a true 360 arc, as the k-wing has one, with a similar 2 attack base but it has its fair share of blind spots. After all, the ships aren't going to be flying parallel to a plane all the time, and the pilot will help his gunner angle for better shots by turning on its side etc.
Personally, I expect this Special Forces TIE fighter to have shields, especially with two crew. Or, if no shields, a cloaking device - what I expect the pylon pieces to be (shields or stealth)
