EPISODE TIE FIGHTER... OH BABY!!!

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Just enjoy the **** toy.

;):lol::D

Nah, not this specific toy, anyway.

Too big for me to do anything with, and that price really stings. I could significantly buy into Armada for that!

But I think we all know FFG will be putting these out for X-Wing, and yeah, I'm definitely picking up a couple, then!

Meh!!

I can't stand those white panels

BOO-HISS-BOO!!!

There in lies the whole point of me little topic.

;)

Would love to play X-wing in this scale, but would need to use a parking lot as a play field

I fail to see the problem with that.

an F4 and an F117: both flying wing designs

I think the term you're looking for is delta wing, as they both have definite fuselages.

Call that 2 attack, with a rear auxiliary arc, 3 agility, 3 (maybe 4?) hull, 0 shields.

I wonder how they will integrate pilots from the resistance and order into the new factions. Maybe you can field both in a squad (ie, blend of first order and empire?) or will they simply be 2 additional factions, is what I want to know.

The picture says "first order special forces TIE Fighter" I highly doubt we would get a pilot skill 1 pilot for a ship like that. My guess, is this TIE will be considered the next TIE Advanced, or at the very least able to take the advanced targeting computer. Unless they do a whole new game.

There are "standard" TIEs in the movie without the "Cogs" or antenna (and presumably without the turret/cannon) - these "standard" TIEs can be seen in the first teaser dogfighting the Falcon.

I am aware of that. THIS particular TIE shown, that people are talking about, is NOT one of those. Hence my comment that a pilot skill 1 on a elite version TIE variant is unlikely. On the generic ones, sure. You see, I expect this TIE variant, should it make its way to X-Wing, be a separate sculpt, rather than a title.

My bad entirely - I think I quoted the wrong post. I was responding to the poster that saw it as a standard 12pt TIE with a rear cannon upgrade (who you were responding to also).

I think the thing is that because it looks more or less like a standard TIE, people are thinking of it in that way (not you obviously) - traditionally we've had a radically different design to denote different capabilities. I too would expect it to be like a TIE advanced compared to the standard TIE, with shields and/or extra hull.

And yes, I would expect a separate sculpt for this one also... the fact that this is the first ship "toy" revealed points heavily to its significance in the movie.

Meh!!

I can't stand those white panels

Personally I'm absolutely baffled at the choice of black as the colour of the hull.

Don't get me wrong, black looks "cool," but from a film production POV it's extremely limiting ... you are essentially committing to showing these ships in atmospheric battles only, or if it is in space, having everything occur with a nebula as a backdrop.

Or super dense star fields, just like the rest of the films.

Really?

That's not what I'd call super dense (but then I live in the country faaaar from city lights).

In any case - if the TIEs in these shots were black ... well we'd be able to make out the white panels at least...

Those black panels sure show up super shiny too. On the. If screen it's much easier to see tons of stars, the small screen leaves a lot to be desired from the films. It is disconcerting that most of the shots of the ships in episode 7 have been in the atmosphere and not space.

resources lost or destroyed. never knowing where a battle might break out. this probably went on for years. so yes the rebels overthrew the tyrannical empire but just created smaller more aggressive clusters of the empire in constant battle for resources. the most cost effective way to develop new war machines in such I situation, I would think, is take what you have and try to make it better with as little cost as can be managed. taking a standard tie and giving it a tail gunner is a huge leap into this direction. giving a fragile swarm ship protection from the rear in a dog fight would be worth its weight in republic credits to increase the survivability in a fight.

So: in the Star Wars universe, production is easy, but design takes time. It took 25 years to build the 1st Death Star, but only 2 or 3 to build the second.

The other issue is raw materials. After the Death Star was destroyed, the Empire had to deal with the Hutts to get new materials for the Second Death Star.

To me, that means it's unlikely that various Imperial fragments would be using extensively modified Tie chassises just because they had them laying around. You'd still have the problems of design, though the material problem would be alleviated.

More likely, I think, is that the Tie design is a fairly efficient morphology- it's small, compact, and basically has the best possible turning radius.

Also it's iconically Imperial, so if you're creating a 1st Order, you would not mind using something so reminiscent of the New Order.

Where do they place the peg? B-Wing style?

Where do they place the peg? B-Wing style?

Good point.

They couldn't do B-Wing style as there is a rear window (not like the front, more of a long horizontal band per teaser #2).

I really don't know what they could do without something strange like a bent or curved stand like one of the rebel ships in Armada ... but that would possibly make it incompatible with standard pegs...

My guess be would be just behind the turret still from below.

Interesting thing I noticed after watching this, the tie appears to be a double seater.

Yep pilot and gunner for the lower turret.

I'm not sure what it'd look like in game if it's unshielded, who's gonna put crew on a tie?

What boggles my mind is why half of you guys still think we're going to see these ships in the first edition of XWMG.

Well we are far more likely to see these than prequel ships.

What boggles my mind is why half of you guys still think we're going to see these ships in the first edition of XWMG.

Explain why we wouldnt see them? Its just 30 years later, so the time frame isnt a problem. FFG wants money so they would want to use the hype of the new movie.

itll probably be a new game.

It does not necessarily have to be a pilot and a gunner... both crew could be both as this badboy might be able to switch directions without turning? suddenly the pilot is the gunner and the gunner the pilot... or at least that is a possibility.

itll probably be a new game.

The existing games have 6 movies and a galaxy full of EU material to draw from.

A new game would either have only the 1 new movie to pull from for a couple years, or would draw from everything. If it's going to draw from everything, it might as well be included in the existing games rather than introducing a new title identical in play style to one of the existing four. T-70 and COG-TIE incoming... eventually

I'm not sure what it'd look like in game if it's unshielded, who's gonna put crew on a tie?

Why would you need to put a crew on it.

It's not like the turret on the Y-Wing requires a crewman.

Yeas... DAT!

Lacks is just mad because he knows they are NEVER going to make prequel ships.
