Murder Cogitator

By singingblade, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest - Rules Questions

Hello everybody, I'm a new player and I have a question:

It's the Deploy phase and I sacrifice a cultist to reduse the cost of a daemon by 1. I activate murder cogitator and draw another daemon. Can I deploy this new daemon, or I have to announce the card I want to deploy from the start?

Sorry for the delay answering your question. It probably looks like the community was ignoring you, but there were some finer points of timing I was overthinking here, so wanted to check things through FFG.

Generally speaking, when you start the process of doing something, you have to announce your intent. This intent is binding. You cannot change your intent as you go through the process - if for no other reason than you can't go backwards in the process to make sure your new intent matches all the checks, etc., you have already passed.

So no, you cannot use a Cultist to reduce the cost to play card A, get card B with Murder Cogitator as a nested reaction within the process of playing Card A, and then finish the process of playing card A by putting card B into play.

Said another way, you identify the card you are going to play when you determine it is a Daemon and that you can use the Cultist to lower the cost. You cannot change your mind on WHICH Daemon you are going to play after triggering the Cultist.

Thanks a lot!
