If the Aggressor player couldn't see the situation he was in was a losing one and continued to keep up a sustained joust with Defenders, he was a bad player. It's not hard to arc dodge and shoot a k turning low ps defender in an Aggressor built half decently.
A few thoughts on why I think TIE Defenders are good ships
I play a lot with my lovely Defender, and it's awesome. Most of the games are wins.
Abusing of white k-turn is mandatory, and you don't need to turn too often if equiped with a Cannon, because is easy to see someone at range 3 where the defender is confortable firing.
I also use Outmanouver most of the time, I'm f$%&g in love with that card. When I k-turn, some opponents think they are safe at long range, but then realize that the ship doesn't gain an extra green die, and that he is losing 1 die instead :3
I want to try the new Ion engines, but my problem with them is that they are a Modification, and I tend to use Stealth Device a lot. 5 dice at long range is very good, and hard to remove.
The Defender is expensive, but combines Jouster with Arc-Dodger, a very versatile ship. Turrets are a nightmare, but at least the Defender has 3 extra very important shields.
The only real downside I see with the defender is Rexler's ability. Can be good, but you are spending a lot in a ship that cannot use his "power" until late game (you need to remove shields, have a nice roll, and have Focus at the right moment). I think that if Rexler would have Vessery's ability, he would see a lot of play. Vessery is very good, but I would liked more with more PS.
Glory to the Defender!!!

Oh, don't worry about Rexler. Once Twin Ion Engine MkII lands he'll be enjoying Push the Limit. Target Lock to get the hits, Focus to make ships go boom.

Could you elaborate a little bit? Generally it's tough to arc dodge and keep shots with only boost to reposition. I'm not sure how the Aggressor would do it in this case.
I take that back, I'm guessing you're talking about Advanced Sensor builds.

With Brath I probably wouldn't mess about with it and just go with Predator or LW.
Yeah, advanced sensors boost into a sloop. Then you're off axis and can usually get a free shot on the defender. Then you can disengage to shed stress or just do a green and continue the attack.

In the few games I've played of triple Delta + Ion against Aggressors, the Aggressors had a tough time. They want to stay at range, but their large base moves them into battle too fast. Three agility on the defender means I usually take 1 or maybe 2 damage from HLC, so IG-88 B's ability doesn't trigger. Then the K-turns start happening, while at least one of the Deltas acts as blocker. This sets up beautiful range 1 shots for the TIE defenders.
It doesn't always happen this way, but it's not uncommon either. It's funny because as the double Aggressor player you look at the opposing squad and are basically fearless, and then things just start getting messy. I suppose a similar situation could happen with other ships against the Aggressors, but they're either not as durable (A-wings and TIE Interceptors) or not fast enough to keep up (B-wings).
