Armada Fleet Builder by HiveLabs [WIP Project]

See the original reddit post here. Updates log:

14/09/2015. The Fleet Builder ALPHA application is online! Provided it is only a test application for me and the testers, you can see it and use it. For any feedback, please contact me at my e- mail address.
14/09/2015. Testing the Fleet Builder in offline mode. It is only missing the save/edit parts, and probably will go online as an Alpha for some tester to get some feedback and test it on multiple devices. The final version will probably see some changes, like Upgrades descriptions, that are now missing to the builder.
08/09/2015. Added MC80 cruisers to the database.
07/09/2015. Added Imperial-I and Imperial-II Star Destroyers to the database.
25/08/2015. I am back to work. Unfortunately I had some problems in the past month and I was not able to work on this application, but I am still looking forward to finish it. With the recent spoilers about The Force Awekens for X-Wing, we may see something similiar with Armada, so there could probably be more work to do in the future. For now, the main objective remains the fleet builder, which will be under development for the following weeks.
29/07/2015. These are the last two weeks before holiday and as always, I am getting a massive amount of work to do, so the Builder is getting slowed down a bit. Anyway, I am working on the Fleet Builder design, and I will add the Upgrades page online as soon as I will be happy with its design.
24/07/2015. You can now select an image and a badge on your profile to show your alignment to a faction, reset your password, and search other users. I am also working on a 'flair' which you can set in your control panel. Also working on text editor for comments, it may go live before 26/07. More profile images will be added in the future!
22/07/2015. Updating the user infrastructure with a basic control panel page and something else useful for future pages. The update will go live later today. I am planning to finish user infrastructure by this weekend so I can focus all my time on the Fleet Builder.
21/07/2015. Working on the first and most important parts of the fleet builder. It is already being designed to work on computers, tablets and smartphones, so design is taking a lot of time. Also, mail sender is up, and after a little troubleshooting it is now properly working. If you received an email with no data, trash it, it was a debug error. Thank you!
16/07/15. Login and registration form are ready. Registration still misses the mailer to send your account information to the specified e-mail, so be sure for now to save your login information somewhere. I am going to add this mailer and a lost username/password recovery service. Then I will structure some user control panel pages.
15/07/15. Squadron database pages just got a new fresh design, hell yeah! And see that? Sidebar just grew up! (actually it grew down, but whatever.) While preparing the last things for the Upgrades pages, I'm designing user instrastructure and fleet generator at the same time. Yes, I'm going to lose my mind on this, but I think that the best way to proceed is to merge the social features to the fleet generator while coding the generator itself. It will be eventually easier than coding the generator without anything to save/share/etcetera and then modify it to add these things as soon as user infrastructure will be ready.
14/07/15. Added Objective Database pages. Gathering everything for Upgrade Database. Next to go: User infrastructure. I promise.
13/07/15. Added tooltips, effects and a new design to the Ship database pages. Every raw data is imported, even if Upgrades and Objectives page are still missing. They will come in the near future. For now, all the Ships and Squadrons are visible and you can navigate quickly between the pages (Squadron sections are under re-design and will be updated in a few days).
11/07/15. I am gathering the remaining data for the database, looking up for icons to use in the pages, and libraries to suit the application with everything it needs, from tooltips, tool usability, and more. Next big step will be an user infrastructure, and you will be able to create your own personal account to login into the system. When this will be done, it will be time to think to a good way to setup the real fleet builder, which I am already designing.
10/07/15. Both Squadron and Ships databases are up and running. The very first part of the application is nearly complete. I like how the design is coming out, but there still a lot of window for improvements.
09/07/15. Works have started on a simple HTML/CSS template. Structuring the Dashboard and the very first pages right now.

I started yesterday (actually months ago by now) to code my own Armada Fleet Builder, after some little research on reddit. I'd like to make this tool the most complete Armada builder tool aroud, with support for mobile devices and more.

You can currently see the application here: http://armada.hivelabs.solutions/

Application working nodes are now Dashboard, Rebel Ship Database, Imperial Ship Database, Rebel Squadron database,Imperial Squadron database, Upgrades Database (missing Wave 2 spoiled stuff) and Objective Database. You can also login or register accounts.

If you want to help, give suggestions, tell me I'm wasting my time, or anything, please write here, or in private. Thank you!

The application is being tested on: 1920x1080px screen, 1600x900px screen, 10,1" tablets, mobile phones.

All in favour. There are a couple of builders around, but none of them quite fit me just yet. I'll certainly give a new one a try!

Added an example for Imperial ships too, located here

Yes - please do us a good generator!

Your mock up looks nice but has some strange choices. The word dice is already a plural noun, "Red Dices " hurts my brain.

I'm a heavy user of xwing-builder.co.uk as well, and personally I'm still looking for an easy to use fleet generator that lets me

  • save my Armada collection,
  • build one or more fleets using only my collection (i.e. set up matches at home using my Reb & Imp units),
  • save (and copy) my fleets,
  • print out a fleet including the details of the ships & upgrade cards

Wops about the wording, I was just doing too many things to actually notice it. Thank you!

it looks awesome,

i would absolutely use it especially if i could pull it up on my phone to pull up lists i had saved

one possible idea after the site is up and running is to add a random element - for example you tell the generator what you have in your collection, and how many points you want - and it randomly generates a combination to fill it. would be fun to have 2 ppl playing each other with randomly made fleets. (no two games would be the same)

Thank you. About all these collection list/random creation/dice thrower "sub-applications", we will all see when the application itself will be finish, or almost. For now, I am still testing the basic things. Like the database. I'm not sure if the website is sustaining traffic, or the server itself, but my tests are awfully sloooooowwwwwwww. Still, they work, so good news afterall! Development continues.

Looks good so far. Nice work :)

Can't wait for this to be finished!

Hello everyone, major update online. All of the Ships are now visible on the application. The only thing that I need to import are the Upgrade icons for each ship (there are some static ones for now). Application working nodes are now Dashboard, Ship Database (Rebel Alliace), Ship Database (Galactic Empire).

Next step: Squadron Databases.

Hey looks awesome...
One thing i would do... go away from these bars...
It might even look cooler to do any kind of symbol for the fire power (how many dice) and Hull...
I dont like the Bar idea at all... looks weird therefore that it is supposed to be a static value.
Maybe instead just use a picture of a black, blue, red die... and then of course the amount.. so Gladiator Front 3 Black Dice symbols and 3 Red Dice symbols.

Everything else so far looks cool!

I love xwing-builder because of the way the info is presented. I don't always memorize what certain abilities pilots have or what upgrade cards do exactly so the way xwing-builder gives the info is very helpful to me.

I currently use Fab's but having to mouse-over and wait for the tooltip pop up.... well, I really prefer xwing-builder. It's more of the way the information is right there and easy to see.

Looking forward to how you create your site!

This looks very promising. I am following the topic in anticipation.

I like tha bars idea just my two cents

The AFIIa is missing a blue rear dice

Also not sure where you got the pic for the Corvette a but the picture of the card has to anti squadron armarment when in fact the ship only has 1

They come all from the offical FFG news, thanks for the info, I'll check out

A random fleet generator would be great.

An AI for solo play such as those from X-Wing would tremendously add a lot of value to the game as not everyone can consistently find someone to play with. It would also be useful for experimenting with builds.

Rebel Squadron database and Imperial Squadron database are up and running. Next to come: finish the upgrade part of the Ship databases, do all the stuff for objectives and upgrade databases.

Some of those pictures are from per-release and the final product had some differences.

Database pages updated with better design. Upgrades are now working in the ship database detailed pages. Maybe I can publish another update later. Criticism welcome.

Frist of all, I applaud your effort and like the direction you are going with things so far. I think this will make an excellent addition to the community.

Since you are looking for feedback I thought I'd make a few suggestions for your consideration.

1) For the squadrons I would suggest making the Anti-squadron and Anti-ship attack bars have the same value range. i.e. 4 or even 5. I think that would create a better visual comparison on their relative strengths since each type of attack would be on the same scale.

2) I'm not sure if this would be possible with the tools that you are using, but it might be interesting to have a single bar showing a ship/squadron's attacks that has a black, blue and red segment (just like the range ruler) with a number next to it for each die type. It could save space and leverage a design aesthetic from the game.

Thanks for all your hard work on this. I look forward to seeing it’s evolution.

Thank you for your input. The maximum attack bars value is something I'm still working on, because I expect in a near future that theese values may go over 4. There is also the same problem on the Gladiator-I which has 4 black dice on the sides, where the maximum is (for now) 3. Nothing really unchangable, I just need to change the maximum property value.

As for the bars stacking the attack types, I've already thought something like that because, as you correctly said, it reflects the game ruler, but the library I'm using doesn't permit me to do something like that for now. I'll check and see if I can find something similar which could give the "stacked" bars on a single line.

And thank you too for seeing it! I'm working on this tool hoping to see it used once it will run with the full features, and if it will become something usable, useful and nice to see, it will be also thanks to you and whoever may give good advices or notice me about what should and shouldn't be in the application itself.

I'm planning to release the User module in a near future so everyone will be able to register and leave any feedback on the application itself. Other than that, you should be able to see both Objective and Upgrade database deatailed pages by 15/07 or 16/07 at max.

Quick update: Objectives pages have been released (link), may see a better design in the next days. 'Now' working on Upgrades pages, then it will be time for user instrastructure, then finally the Fleet Generator section!

Edit: also gave a fresh design update to the Squadron pages. Now they look quite better!

Edit 2: user infrastructure is up. No real pages to manage your profile but you can create it. For now that's all I can do, in the next days I'll refine it with the pages, mails, etc.

Like the app. has some great features!

Dont know if its been mentioned but the AFMIIa squad number is shown as 3 but the value is actually 2.
