Wave 2 at the Printer!

By MyronMagic, in Star Wars: Armada

Good News! Headed over to Miniature Market and put one of everything in my cart. Since free shipping over $99, the total for one of each of Wave 2 was $109.57. Not too bad at all.

Not sure about you folks buying five Mc30's? What's the strategy there? Mc30 Swarm, I guess?

you would be correct, given Mc30s are absolute garbage for squadron support :P

Rogue might help that out a bit, though, if the price is right

personally, not touching anything until I get more spoilers. The only ships that are auto-buys for me so far is the ISD and the Mon Cal (oh the memories...)

Does anyone else get the feeling FFG might have played it smart this time and made the models and the bases of the ships since they announced them?

No I'm fairly sure they didn't. They just don't do things like that. For one thing they have to have the models approved by LFL/Disney before they can go into mass production. It also wouldn't make any sense for them to be sitting on the models for all this time, when printing the cards is going to be a very quick and easy process compared to making and painting the models.

So when they say the pack has gone to the printers, they mean exactly that. That means we may see them by Oct. They may have some at Gencon but I wouldn't hold my breath, I wouldn't be surprised if they did. But I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't either.

5 MC30's and either Rieekan or Mon Mothma for survivability. You use them as Frigates, which means they can take a hit but nothing devastating. You should likely put Advanced Projectors so that they can survive any XI7's (which I think will rise in popularity in order to Pierce large ships) swarming is sort of the term but they have the firepower to take ships down fairly well. Since the Rebels don't have a Screed like Commander ACMs are less useful. Of course you could take Akbar the Scout Frigate for Red dice and Rapid Reload so you are shooting 3 red and 4 black off the sides.

Though this is my first year with FFG so I am likely wrong.

Yaaaaaay! Now to let the wallet know its going to be raped again soon....

Please don't throw that phrase around without good cause.

This is good cause....

And stow your political correctness. It's a word.

I cannot believe you'd be such an staggeringly unsympathetic person to think using the word **** is acceptable when buying toy soldiers, that's disgusting.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa....whoa

Alright everyone, let us all take a step back. Deep calming breaths. Count to ten.

Now...HOW DARE YOU TETSUGAKU-SAN! Calling these ships of war, "toy soldiers." I am offended and disgusted at your lack of acknowledgement for what they truly are.

Without touching who is right/wrong here 9i think you both have elements of each....), could you take it to PMs please? This argument has happened in the past, and it will kill the thread faster than a Death Star.

So, pretend the thread is Alderaan....please take your Death Star argument elsewhere :)

Now we will find out how balanced the game is.

I really hope you can only field 1 ISD. But I will buy 2 anyway. I must have 2 (or more) of everything.

If it is truly balanced any 400 point fleets you build now should still be able to win.

If it is truly balanced any 400 point fleets you build now should still be able to win.

Well....not really. Not if it's well balanced anyway.

A well thought out, complimentary list should ALWAYS have a major edge over a collection of ships with less options, even if the ships themselves are perfectly balanced.

Its not about the ships being better, its about more tactical options beating limited tactical options.

Looking so forward to the new wave! Can't wait to see that ISD on the game table.

Pre-ordered mine last month so by the time the ships actually arrive the payment will be a thing of the past.

Takes a little of the sting on the wallet away (or at least helps the illusion).

Well me and my friend have played many 400 pts lists and my favorite would be the bane of a 2 ISD build

Wave 2. Sigh.

FFG's neverending campaign to "liberate" currency from Wallet Dictatorship continues. I, for one, welcome our new squid overlords.

Well I think they have to have it approved first by Disney before they can preview what the Wave will be.

No they don't, the CR-90 and the Raider both had a note "pending final approval by the license holder" So they have released previews for ships not fully approved yet. I'm sure at that point it's close and likely to have very few changes. But it would be massively stupid to start full on production before having final approval.

Though this is my first year with FFG so I am likely wrong.

So far FFG has had a track record of being pretty bad about predicting when something will come out. That's why when they say Q2 we ask "of what year?" But for X-Wing at least they've been pretty consistent about updating the Upcoming page.

There's been 1 ship so far that came out faster then expected, the GR-75 transport. Every other expansion has been out 3-4 months if not longer after the status 'at the printer' has been set.

So IME at least, when they say 'at the printer' they mean exactly that. That the expansion packs are starting to get produced. They don't start producing the models until they have everything in the expansion pack ready and signed off.

Edit: GenCon starts in 18 days. That makes me highly skeptical of them having Wave 2 there. Not saying it can't happen, but that's a pretty short time to produce a thousand or so units, which I'd expect is the minimum they'd need to make it worth the cost of airfreight.

Chill out, and remember the proper meaning for the word:

Spoil or destroy (a place):timber men doubt the government’s ability to ensure the forests are not raped

That's fine, the ISD, MC80, and the MC30c are fine.

No they're not. Every ship has to be approved before they can make it. Besides the Raider was already approved by LFL before it went into production for X-Wing, so that one likely got approved as part of the approval process for X-Wing, since it is just a scaled down version of the same model.

There is zero reason to expect that FFG has already started making those models prior to this point, it's not like it's something they've hinted at or something.

There hasn't been a single case of X-Wing or Imperial Assault models being produced prior to them being marked 'at the printer' so there's no reason to think this is somehow different.

And frankly no it doesn't make sense, they don't gain anything and actually have it cost them to be sitting on the models and yet waiting to print the cards, because all those models have to be stored somewhere and that costs money.

It sounds much more like wishful thinking by someone who wants his toys sooner then latter, which is something I can appreciate, but that doesn't change the fact that there's nothing we know of that suggests Wave 2 is going to get here in less time then wave 2 and beyond got here for X-Wing.
