Imperial Spawn Points - Visible to Rebel Players?

By kansaijin, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Hello,

I am currently playing the IP through a campaign - first time for everyone to play (myself and the heroes). I have read the rules over a couple of times, and maybe I missed this, so I thought I would ask.

Last night we played "Loose Cannon" and the players were complaining that I was spawning groups at locations unknown to them - possibly even next to them. They stated they should have visibility to the spawn points.

Question:

Am I supposed to be labeling the IP spawn points on the game map, or should they stay as hidden to the heroes?

Any feedback is appreciated.

I would direct your Rebel players to read "Campaign Deployment" on pg 11 of the RRG which states:

"Deployment points on the mission's diagram is hidden information. The Imperial player must follow these icons, but cannot show the map to the Rebel players."

The Rebel players just need to be ready for anything. The whole point of the deployment zones is to surprise the Rebel players, or catch them off guard.

Thank you for pointing this out - I was sure it was in the rules somewhere, and I figured someone would point it out! :)

Rebel players in my group started marking my deployment points with a token after I deployed something from that point.

Your rebel players are dirty cheaters. I wouldnt allow that.

That's a very good point, and I'd probably allow it if my players come up with it. I like the fact, though, that I don't have to tell them if they got it RIGHT, or what color is the spawn point. Good thinking, thank you!

This is actually what I came to ask about. I'd thought marking the spawn points was what the Rebel/Imperial tokens were for. (We haven't done skirmishes yet, so if they're for those, not sure.) Then wondered why the Rebel side never gets used. Are they used as spawn points, or, the only other logical thing I can think of: Capture The Flag-type objective markers?

Some missions use them to represent various things; they are definitely not intended to be markers for spawn points, as those are technically hidden information (although the Rebels will see any given point as it is used, and I agree they should be free to mark it if they wish).

You are required to tell them what color the spawn point is.

In fact, you're required to READ EVERYTHING from the manual as it happens.

"The red spawn point becomes active (green)"

"Deploy a reserve group to the Red Spawn point."

Doing otherwise is violating page 2, and cheating.

Since we're all "page 2"ing it here...

1) Just to be technical, if the Empire player has to make a choice between several one-time use bullet points, she *only* reads the choice she made, and does not read the others.

2) Page 2 also states that deployment points are always hidden, are you are not required to tell the rebels this information, no matter how many bothans they decide to sacrifice.

I will get all quotey and proofy tonight when i whip out my campaign book.

You are partially correct on point 2. Deployment points in the map on the campaign set-up guide are secret.

But the events which activate deployment points must be read out (i.e. "The red deployment point is active.")

Further, deployments are no longer secret obviously when they're used. It's valid to ask where you're deploying from to make sure deployment is done correctly (you have to deploy as close as possible to the point or on it).
