Spark of Rebellion Full Release!

By Drathen, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I am surprised that there is no AT-DP

This and the Troop Transport are both statted & fluffed (there has to be a better word) ;)

I think with layout involved it was completed too late in the day to get into this release. Lessons learnt on planning :)

Okay. So did you also include the new model of speeder bikes that pops up in the film as well? I'm just asking because I;m really weird about having a complete list of vehicle/gear stats at hand, so I like my collection to be complete.

No the speeder bikes aren't included. (From my perspective) there's nothing unique about them really, and we tried to focus on stuff that wasn't already in other books as much as possible initially. (The AT-DP and Troop Transport notwithstanding, but they slipped through the cracks.)

Mind you, it seems like our first review might well be shaping up to be "ground vehicles"! So they may be included then. :)

At first glance I really like this supplement. But I have a couple comments on some of the stats.

First, Kanan's stats, skills and force powers don't seem complete. Based on his actions, i would have thought he would have a couple skills at 3, maybe an extra attribute point or two. His skills were lower than everyone else in the rebel cell, except maybe Ezra. Also, he was missing force leap, and maybe some of the other upgrades.

Second, I missed seeing lightsaber skill on the inquisitor. I KNOW he has at least 2 ranks, if not more.

I don,t think I agree, what we see him do is basic melee with a saber that is spinning at the push of a button....

awesome stuff, the people who made this represent everything that's great about this hobby!

will i disagree with some stuff? probably? (there should be enough material in 91 pages. 91 pages!) guess what, that's completely beside the point. ;)

downloaded and looking forward to more of your stuff. keep up the amazing work! :)

Thank you for the kind words! :)

We are getting a feel from the feedback over the next few weeks so we can see what needs to be addressed and what to do in the next source book....so keep it coming :)

Depending on how well it goes over...with Force and Destiny about to come out....I been playing SWTOR again....and kinda creating some pages for that. Besides continuing with Rebels....im aiming for a SWTOR or The Clone Wars source book....but thats a ways off! :)

Good observations, thanks. I imagine the Inquisitor Lightsaber skill is simply an omission that got past us all in proofing. It happens. I have a new-found understanding of the apparently obvious errors I sometimes find in professional works, because I know this book has been pored over numerous times by many people! Fortunately, there's nothing that can't be fixed.

The Kanan stuff shows why there has always been a debate about starting iconic characters, because no-one ever agrees.

However speaking purely for myself, I think you're along the right lines and he's a bit weak as presented here. Could be a good one to review.

Thanks for the input :)

Except of course when he is going up against Ezra and Kannan at the same time fending them both off.

Or in the final confrontation where it takes crazy tactics and a life changing revelation from Kannan to beat him.

Or you can brush it off as nothing, but that would be bad GM'ing to not highlight the character's achievements.

Yeah, I forgot about that final battle. However I do believe he is most dangerous when he has the sword do the fighting for him.

How about light sabre 1?

A few more questions (sorry, vehicles again):

  • the TIE Advanced v1 is listed as "The Inquisitor's". Would there be any difference between a mundane version and his?
  • The vehicle you call a Corellian Cargo Shuttle seems to have an official designation (VCX-series auxiliary starfighter, sourced from Ultimate Star Wars). Did you know about that... or what?

As to the Phantom... That's a sore point. Here in the Outer Rim backwater of the UK we aren't deemed worthy of Ultimate Star Wars until September, so I don't have access to it. In the Rebels Visual Guide it's called a "short-range corellian shuttle fighter". It also says it makes the Ghost unique among its class. So we wanted to add a shuttle that could be modded to be the fighter in the show, as "unique among its class" suggests that it's not standard.

(Along similar lines - I wonder if FFG are going to retcon the Alderaan Cruiser and the origins of the A-Wing in future printings?) ;)

The Inquisitor's v1 is the first prototype, but I don't think it's any different from any other. How many there are is unknown, (2 at least as one gets blown up). Stats wise they'd all be the same. The title denotes it's use in the show more than anything.

Makes sense. Other than 'do you think you might change/update the content after that book releases?' I'll leave you alone about the vehicles.

One a related note, I wonder how the two promotional Ep. VII reference books are going to effect the game as a whole and individual player's games.

Oh for sure! This project was started back in Feb remember, lots has happened since then. If new info trumps stuff we have in the book, the intention is absolutely to correct it. Hopefully nothing too major Canon-bombs the stuff we've come up with, but smaller stuff like this shouldn't be a problem.

I would say 5 = best of the best, 2 is "can stat out a starting character to this point"

I would think at minimum the Inquisitor would be 2 or 3. definitely "very good" .

Also the FaD beta errata 10 has an "fallen apprentice" with lightsaber 3, I would think the inquisitor is better than an apprentice.

But the fallen master is listed with lighsaber 4 and I don't think he is that good. so 3 seems to fit the best.

I, obviously, disagree. Holding off a padawan and a padawan's padawan with a sabre that does the work for you is definitely not very good. 1 is good enough as it is.

I'll cite the above as exhibit 1 of why there aren't shouldn't be official stats :)

Perhaps we can ask the inquisitor as the subject of the next "you build the character"?!

At the end of the day given limited time and input, you have to come to a consensus.

Or, you just decide that you’ve gone as far as you can reasonably go at the moment, and you just have to go ahead and release knowing that there are a few minor bugs. If you keep holding up the release in order to get everything 100% perfect, then you will never end up releasing.

But one advantage we have over FFG is that this can be an evolving document. We can take on board observations/criticisms & requests and incorporate them (or not) later down the road.

Yup. I’ve got some resolution-independant scalable vector graphics that I’m working on and want to drop into place for all the stat blocks.

And I’d love to be able to get the em-dash and smart/dumb quote issues resolved throughout all the text.

Most of my eighty-plus issues that I identified have been addressed, but there are a few left that I’d like to see get fixed in the next release. ;)

I think I'll just drop it if you don't mind.

If Kanan has 1 rank in Lightsaber, the Inquisitor needs more. He toys with Kanan, determines his teacher from his style, tells him all about his reliance on Form 3...that's not somebody with a single rank. As the season progresses Kanan gets better but still loses... "You've been practicing..." "Good of you to notice...", so he must have something to grow into.

That would be my justification. It doesn't really matter though, and hardly worth quibbling over. I'd simply change it for my own use.

Just wanted to say that I downloaded and skimmed through your book. Loving what I see. I wanted to say thank you for all your time and effort that the group pored into the making of the supplement. These are the kind of things that I love the internet for.

For feed back I would have to say that I would have loved to see a map or two. I come from a heavy D&D background having played the game in its many forms since the early 80's. I now that maps take time and I do a whole lot of them for D&D, but really haven't done much for Sci Fi games with this being the first that I am going to play in a long time.

I also want to say that I feel that this is your work and it should be written as you see that it should. Anything I feel is wrong or needs improvement will be done by me as the GM.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to any future products, and thank you many times over.

A "Like" is not enough, I just have to say it's a brilliant piece of work. Congrats!

Great work

I just have a few questions/critiques on the equipment section.

First, what is the built-in suppressor mod? I can't find one anywhere.

Some of these weapons are just too good, particularly the X-8 Night Sniper Blaster and the WESTAR-35 Blaster. These have very high damage for their encumbrance value of 1, and high HP to boot. These make the DR-45 Dragoon from Stay on Target look bad, and the Dragoon is (in my opinion) quite the over powered weapon in its own right. The Dragoon is more expensive than these guns.

Last, is the T7 Ion Disruptor supposed to say Stun Damage (Droid's Only) rather than stun setting like the ion blaster in the core book does?

Sorry if I'm coming off as nitpicking, but equipment and game balance theory are things I love to think about.
