Can I get card binders/portfolios (books of pockets) sized for the upgrade cards?

By downsizedsandals, in X-Wing

A picture of an example, because *someone* will always misunderstsand the question. I'd like one of these, sized for the upgrade cards.

If anyone can't see that, I'm looking for pages for a card binder/portfolio, containing pockets that are sized for the upgrade cards.

Does anyone knows where to find these? or if any other type work?

I find business card folders aren't designed for easy removal of the card and I would not trust them not to damage the card surface after several months.

There isn't a great sheet for the upgrade cards. Many of us put 2 upgrades in a standard card sized pocket. If you sleeve the upgrade cards they're snug enough that they don't move around much.

Others use business card sized holders I believe.

Business card holders are the best solution I've found. It's not a perfect fit, but it gets the job done.

the only business card holders I've found have horizontal openings, both towards the middle. so if you put the binder on its 'side' one opening or the other is 'down' and cards slide out. less of an issue if they are sleeved, but I eventually gave up on those and went with regular card pockets.

Yeah they've got to be sleeved for business card holders to work. Then again, sleeving them is a good idea regardless.

Mine are sleeved and they fit nicely into Altoids tins. I use a sharpie to identify the tin by upgrade type. The tins then fit into a standard card box.

I used 12-pocket sticker pages. As VanorDM said, none of them are perfect. These work pretty well, but I keep them in a zip-up binder, because a some cards will slide out of the pockets if the binder is roughly handled. I'm not thrilled with their performance, but it's an improvement over the sorting boxes I was using before, requiring me to sift through a stack of cards for each upgrade.

I also use the 12-pocket sticker pages, but they are not nearly as nice as the ones that fit the pilot cards.

First, they are much slicker and do not do a great job holding the cards in place. They seem much more reflective as well.

Instead of black background, like the regular pockets, these are transparent. I use some regular pockets as dividers between sections, so at least have some visual barrier.

They waste a LOT of space in between the cards.

I wish there was a better alternative, but I just use normal binders and put my sleeved upgrade cards in horizontally. It takes a long time to get cards in/out, but it's the best I have come up with.

Looks just like mine, but hotdamn those tabs!

Get a binder with normal card pages that open from the sides, sleeve your cards with FFG sleeves, and fit two to a card slot. All done! Just be gentle when opening it so they don't move around.

Started that way, but they moved around too much. Plus, I prefer that the cards be stored right side up - it makes it a lot easier to read and find the ones I want.

If you put the upgrade cards in sideways they don't move around and you can get two upgrades cards for each pilot.

Also recommend a zip binder, even the upgrade cards will sit snug in those slots and they won't slide.

I've been using coin pages (LINK).

The upgrades stick out the top, but that does make it easier to grab.

A zip binder is essential.

(I want to look into those sticker sheets now)

I've taken normal card pages (like the ones shown in the OP), cut the pockets in half, and then used a soldering iron to melt the pockets back together to make 18 half size pockets. It's not professionally pretty looking, but the pockets are perfectly sized and only takes about 30 seconds per page to make.

I've tried using the Foodsaver with a heat seal to divide the pockets of a card binder page. The heat seal is similar to using a soldering iron. It makes a fairly clean line and cuts a standard sized card pocket in half, but everything needs to be positioned precisely. But dividing the pockets lets you hold 18 Upgrade sized cards per side.

That said, the new pockets are only big enough for unsleeved cards. The width of the seal is only a few millimeters, but it's wide enough to prevent a sleeved card from going in. I've tried to make the seal smaller, about 1.5 mm, but it's too thin and the seal breaks open.

After all that, I've gone back to putting 2 sleeved upgrade cards per pocket and adding an extra card in the back so it fits more snugly. All those extra rules cards are coming in handy.

Hmm it's worked perfectly fine for me. I must have found a good book that keeps them snug. I do turn the pages slowly just in case though.

2,5"x2.5" coin slot card pages work good for the upgrade cards. the ones i use are "guard house shield" archival pages. cards fit in perfectly sideways! can put in multiple cards per space as well up to around 7. cards are pretty snug as well and wont easily fall out. That said i do keep mine in a fully enclosed zippered trapper keeper binder.
