Vehicle RAM

By SmutsMuts, in Only War Rules Questions

Hello,

I have a question regarding the RAM Action a vehicle can do.

On eof my players was driving Chimera and there was a Nob in melee with the Chimera hitting it with it's Choppa in the front, the player then wanted to RAM a trukk which was standing a couple of meters behind the nob.

So, what happens to the Nob? :P Can the Chimera do a Ram action from standing still or is it required to have done a move action in the previous turn?

Feels a bit strange to just ram something in front of you from standing still, and can the nob just step aside, a flat dodge doesn't feel right since the chance for a nob to dodge something is close to zero :P

I ended up letting the player ram the trukk with the nob between the trukk and the chimera, so the nob took the damage and was squeezed between the vehicles.

What do you think?

Can the Chimera do a Ram action from standing still or is it required to have done a move action in the previous turn?

Chimera required to move at least 15m (Tactical Speed) in a straight line in the turn, when the Ram! actions is performed .

If you want to ram an orc, i suppose if you look on it realistically you could drive over the orc and end up some meters behind the orc. But if I understand it right you then need 15m to the orc to be able to perform the ram action. And if your chimera has been damaged so you have reduced tactical speed that also means that you have a lower min-way you need to travel to make a ram action?

It seems that you're right by RAW but I'm not sure what I think about it.

That's my problem as well, it feels a bit strange :P

The other thing I would like to get a good grip around is the following scenario:

1 2 3

|--------|----------------------|

|-------------15m------------|

1: The target i want to ram.

2: A person in my ram-path.

3: Chimera

Can you then say that you want to RAM 1 or do you need to have an empty clear path? Because in real life if you had a tank and wanted to ram something and some person was in the way you woulden't care if you just run over him/her as well. But how to handle damage and can they dodge, do they get some bonus to dodge since it's a rather slow tank who are heading your way, pretty easy to spot and get out of the way, or do you assume that the target moves and thus just ignore the person and move the chimera to the ram target?

Ill say they can dodge. Dodge is a reaction remember so they are reacting to the dodge. Also just GM zero it and say you do the same amount of damage to the ork as the thing your ramming. That's how I do it anyways. Based on real life and it makes sense.

Although you could say the ork slowed down the speed of the chimera so you might do less damage... It all depends on the story you want to tell. Or if you want it to be fun just let them be able to do what you originally did and stop worrying about the technical.

I'd say it is the same as a withdrawal, no hit on the Ork who moves out of the way, free strike.
