So do we know what the names of the new runner factions are?

By Marinealver, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

Well we got Anarchs, Criminals, and Shapers. But with 3 new factions what are the names of the new factions?

So here are my guesses at lore

So the security specialists I can only guess Grey-hats. At first runners were classed as black hat for criminals and white hats as specialists that test system and develops ways to prevent intrusion. Since more and more corporations are becoming the law (either through lobbying or just ignoring government laws all together) many so called white hats are no longer devoted to upholding injustice through corrupt governments.

As a faction that has no humans just self aware AI constructs We could call this the Skynet faction. Like skynet from terminator they want to end humanity and take over as the next evolution of sentient beings starting with the net. They care nothing for the downtrodden like some anarchs, these beings care about power and will start by attacking the human power base, the megacorperations themselves.

Don't know what to do about this runaway bioroid faction. Not too many runaway biroids as they can all be tracked not to mention their program insures loyalty to whoever owns them. The runaways. There could also be some humans in this faction as those that harbor runaway bioroids. Unlike shapers they don't consider bioroids as tools that become obsolete and must be replaced.

Considering that each of these mini-factions has (and always will have) a grand total of one runner each, I imagine they'll mostly be known as Sunny, Adam and Apex...

Feesh beat me to it, as per usual.

I hope they have at least another ID. I know it won't be for a while. I think having only your card pool restricted to a single box set is like playing with only the core set. Sooner or later you will want new cards. Now there shouldn't be as many IDs as the main factions or as cards, but all 3 mini factions cardpool should come close to a single faction's card pool otherwise what is the point of playing a minifaction ID?

I don't want to sound snarky, but did you read the press release? They are intended to be self-contained to D&D. There's a reason they have 25 influence. Can you imagine if they had a decent sized card pool AND all that influence to throw around?

" I want to be very clear: we are not introducing a fourth, fifth, and sixth Runner faction to the game. The majority of the support these Runners will ever get is contained within Data and Destiny , and you will continue to see many Shaper, Anarch, and Criminal cards in the future."

To me that doesn't make it sound like there'll be a second ID or even very many cards ouside of Data and Destiny for any of the mini factions. Besides, design space seems limited in that area, since the focus of two of the factions seems quite narrow and the third is basically a "blank" ID. However, with each of the new Ids having 25 Influence I don't think they need as much in-faction support, since they have the option to use other existing and upcoming cards (and possibly add a bit of a twist to them, depending on how their in-faction cards interact with them).

I don't think there will be that many mini faction cards outside the Data and Destiny pack. and when they first come out I am sure that their generous influence will give them plenty of flexibility, but playing an ID and being restricted to mostly 1 box set can easily become stagnate. I can say it is safe to assume that we don't need core 2.0 yet. The nice thing about the generous influence is that these factions don't require that many cards so they don't need to be refreshed all the time. However I will still say this a 1 ID faction could be good for a cycle but after that they will need some new cards for their faction.

Not to restate what most others have said in this thread, but an extra 10 influence is nothing to be sneezed at. As it stands, the majority of this extra influence will have to go to a breaker suite, unless you want to run Crypsis or Overmind. That being said, we only have a few spoiled cards so far... which means we are just as likely to get a complete "neutral" breaker suite than not. If we do, this opens up huge possibilities. Keep yourself to 1 influence cards and over half your deck will be splashed.

10 influence is about 4 to 7 more cards. Yes they can have an extra splash or two from the other IDs. However as you said we don't know what the other cards will be. So it is still too soon to tell what types of runner decks (if any) we will see coming from Data and Destiny.
