Rebel big Three

By Tcsparkie, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Been playing

Wes With VI

Wedge with Predator

Ten Numb with Adv Sensors and Mangler

Been having great sucksess breaking bro bots, fat Han and other large and 3 ship builds however the swarm is still trouble. 5 ship plus builds eat me right up. Not sure how I would like to change things up and have the punch that I get here.

Mind explaining how the list plays against those lists you mentioned?
I'm especially interested how it works against brobots, RAC&Soontir and Fat Han :)

Looking at the list, I would imagine the idea behind this is hit the arc dodger or escort ship first.

Firing order is Wes -> Wedge -> Ten.

This means Wes removes the evade/focus even if he doesn't hit. Then Wedge removes shields or lowers the ships hull as he removes a green die and predator reroll capitalizes on that. Then Ten slings a crit into the ship to either destroy or cripple it.

Problems on paper for this build are probably:

A) Getting all 3 ships on target in one round (however, 8-10 PS probably means he can deploy his ships to easily meet the arc dodger in the second round with each ship or at least with the two x-wings.)

B) not taking so much return damage that you can still deal with the beefcake leftover after the escort ship is gone.

If I saw this list on the other end of the table, I'd keep my escort ship close to my beefy ship and try my best to eliminate Wes first.

I have a similar build with Wes and Wedge on Xwings and Keyan on the B-Wing.

Yeah, I'm not sure how this list could beat a swarm. You don't have any repositioning or regenerating ships, which means that it is easy to get a lot of guns on you. Since none of your ships have high agility, even 2 dice attacks are going to sting.

Have you considered changing up your list? Although A wings hit as hard, Jake or Tycho would be a great ship to use against swarms, and would help that matchup a lot. Switching to Tycho w/ VI, PtL, AT, CR clocks in at a modest 30. You could switch out Wes, or trade in VI for Predator or Outmaneuver, and take out Wedge. Nobody wants to be left in the end-game against Tycho, he is a beast in 1v1 because he is so unpredictable.

I borrowed (I regretfully do not know anymore from whom) the combination of Wes with VI combined with two other pilots with Opportunist.

Fly in formation, Wes fires first, the other two fire 4 dice each at the same target.

Had nice results with it. Especially with Keyan getting the 'focus' ability from the stress of opportunist.

I just stumbled over this post and thought I present another variant of "big three":

Keyan Farlander (29)
Opportunist (4)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Wedge Antilles (29)
R2 Astromech (1)

Wes Janson (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)

It is maybe just me, but I can say that I prefer Keyan over Ten.

The order is cyrstal clear, wes, wedge then keyan. I have flown different builds involving keyan, wedge and wes. So far, keyan with five attack dice has been" the thing" for me. TL combined with Opportunist, HLC and Keyans ability is just like changing five attack dice symbols instantly to five hits. There are other strong variants out there when it comes to Keyan, no doubt.

I'm going to try Wes, Wedge and Keyan tonight. I like the synergy of Keyan and Opportunist. Opportunist is one of those cards I normally don't think about because it gives stress. Both the pilots and myself are usually stressed when I fly.

The original idea I learned of the Wes and Keyan with HLC and opportunist had Jan Ors instead of Wedge.

It gives you Keyan with 6 attack dice....

I think I will try Keyan Farlander in the mix tomorrow sounds interesting.

With this build I usually slow play one side and place asteroids tightly grouped to an edge. Most bro bot players or fat Han will not come in strong usually giving you range 3 concentrated fire on a single ship and getting return fire from a single. Playing up an edge doesn't leave a lot of room for agile ships to avoide arcs also. Next maneuver usually lets me range 1 with 2 of my ships then break off into the asteroids and regroup. Large bases usually have harder times here and opponents running bro bots only have forward arcs so you can guess pretty accurately how their going to manoeuvre. Biggest part I found playing this list is let them move in don't chase, if they get flankers in quickly because you advanced hard your cannon falls apart.

I have a hard time seeing how this beats brobots, sure you can pack on some damage with PS advantage, but HLC/Manglers would eat this list alive. Wes dies in 2 rounds to HLC/Mangler, and you are at a mobility disadvantage...once you make your first run you're going to have a hard time repositioning to get all 3 guns on the same target again.

don't forget stay on an edge slow playing up usually lets you deal with one at a time, your going to get one concentrated fire for sure which can be crippling if not right out flattens him. Wes and Wedge can strip 4 shields easy leaving Ten to land those crits. Also your really not in any mobility disadvantage, they have forward arcs, not rocket science to predict where there going to be. Plus asteroids limit their movement more then yours.
