Zen question... why does the tie fighter...

By Rakaydos, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I think the whole topic is tainted by WEG's make-it-up-as-we-go-along-itis.

Stop slinging mud. Without the work that WEG did, there would be far less to Star Wars than currently exists, and that includes a number of rather good parts of the EU. Now the old Marvel comics, OTOH...

consumables = Food, air, electric charge for heat (and droids), water, and the recycling systems that go with them.

How is that slinging mud? WEG made up a lot of the EU as they went along. Some good, some bad. I respect WEG for keeping the universe alive and contributing to the shared world. Most of what they wrote has been placed aside to make room for new material though. Unfortunately, this, and many other converasations end up going in circles because of what they created. Rather than being able to discuss what's in cannon and the FFG books, many keep coming back to that's not how WEG did it so it's wrong. Hence my opinion that the conversations are tainted.

I have no problem with someone saying that they are going to use the old WEG descriptions of something or even their own home rules. But when someone says that FFG, Rebels, or the CW is wrong because that's not what WEG said it's supposed to be then I like to point out, for the game at hand, WEG is a non-entity outside of house rules/flavor. We can hope that our favorite pieces are included in future canon, but that's about it.

Realize that you put FFG on your "canon side" when so much of it is based directly on WEG and video games. I would say the "tainted" part comes with placing undue emphasis on what's currently considered canon (let's be real--it will probably be pushed aside/rewritten/ignored at some point too).

You accused someone of being disorganized without any proof i.e. mud slinging, that's what happens when you state an opinion without any facts to back it up.

HappyDaze pointed this out with a joke and you still took it personal.

If it wasn't for fans we wouldn't have Saga, then WEG, and then FFG, each an improvement on the other, but none being better than the other and people having preferences.

Interesting point of view. I stated my opinion, I didn't accuse anyone of anything. And I'm pretty sure that it's a fact that WEG invented much of the EU material. An opinion is just that, an opinion. It's not slinging mud. I was curious why HappyDaze thought I was so I explained my opinion.

I didn't see HappyDaze's comment as a joke, but I didn't take it personally either.

Did you read my post? I gave WEG credit for what they've done and I agree that they've done some good things. But that doesn't change the fact that much of what they've done has been set aside from Star Wars until such time as the new owner includes them. Arguing that WEG did X, Y, or Z doesn't help a conversation about canon. If someone says they like the way WEG did it, awesome, I hope they have fun. But to argue that such and such was changed is arguing from a tainted point of view IMO.

Happy gaming

Pages 257 of EotE and 270 of AoR pretty much spell out that, in the realm of FFG's SWRPG, TIE fighters do not contain life support systems, hyperdrive, shields, or landing gear. Consumables mean whatever you want it to be whether it's total fuel, rations, life support modules, or what have you. Most likely consumables will not factor during gameplay unless a GM really wants to go that deep. Further argument at this juncture should be considered moot..

Saga came out after WEG. WEG had the license from 1989-1999. WotC had the license from 2000-2010 or so. FFG has had the license since about 2010 or 2011.

Not my point, point is they are out there and some improve on the other.

The next thing you'll see on Rebels is a TIE fighter with shields, hyperdrive, and proton torpedoes...

Well, we have seen Darth Vader's TIE Advanced. It has shields, a hyperdrive and can be armed with Proton Rockets......2.5 out of 3 ain't bad.

IT's a fighter with Twin Ion Engines... it just isnt an Imperial Line fighter...

A standard TIE Fighter don't have shields, hyperdrive and proton torpedoes but Darth Vaders personal Tie Fighter do, mainly because he spends a lot of his spare time tinkering around with it.
