Fourth wave of figure packs announced

By Muz333, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

are 3 4 Bantha Rider lists going to be a thing? Comes out to 39 points. (Thought they were 13 for some reason.) Unless they can't interact....

The 9 point one shown is an elite version, so no more than two can be deployed in skirmish. Not sure if the grey card is just not shown or there are only elite versions of these ally packs.

I think it would be great if this was only an elite unit. It would keep them manageable in skirmishes. 18 points to soak up 42 hits? Sure!

Again, these are fantastic additions guys. Love 'em! :D

If the regular smuggler is 2 Points I see myself playing 4 of them. They'll be really good for Scenarios and Terminals...

Luke (10)

Elite Sab (7)

Elite Sab (7)

Reg Sab/Jyn (5)

Gideon (3)

Smuggler x4 (8)

40 pts, 9 acts

You are right, however assuming that it costs 2 is not outlandish. It seems unlikely the regular version will cost 3, when the elite is 4, given existing models as a precident. 3 health and only the first ability also seems likely.

...awesome....will a dewback be coming???!

wunderbar!

Smuggler will be 2-3 points and so will R2 and 3PO, rebels will suddenly get a lot more activations. A couple may even make it into scum lists to increase their activations.

Love the banthas, great sculpt and just what scum needed.

I think we will see a campaign wave to go along with this skirmish wave, just like with the twin shadows + hired guns / wookies announcement. FFG are probably holding onto that announcement until gencon.

It says right in the article these figures are not associated with anything else. Same as wave threes new units.

The wave 3 units may be skirmish only but they were announced the same day as the campaign wave 2.

I think we'll shortly (gencon) have a wave 5 announcement, with a campaign focus.

It's kind of hard to have a campaign wave without a skirmish wave to balance things out, otherwise rebels would only get unique deployment cards and the imperials would get more than the other factions.

I really hope Wave 3 and Wave 4 aren't JUST figure packs. Especially ones that focus so heavy on skirmish.

(Also, theres more planets than just Tatooine, FFG. )

have to start somewhere

What's the beast tamer card that is labelled as unique? Is that a skirmish upgrade or another character?

****, would have been better as a hero alternative.

Skirmish Upgrade.

Hmm, wonder if that card will give a bonus to all Creature traits.

Looks like the Bantha's 1st ability is called Trample.

No defense die on Bantha is interesting. Just a bullet sponge but just scary enough to not ignore.

Looks like Smuggler's 1st ability is called Improved Smuggler's Instincts which would mean the generic version would just be Smuggler's Instincts with a lesser effect.

The Bantha mini looks amazing. I may get two just for that.

Disappointed that they didn't follow the same pattern as wave 3 and throw in a resculpted Imperial core unit. We need an economical solution for adding more Guards and Officers; honestly they should have come before Stormtroopers.

And speaking of Royal Guards, the Smuggler seems almost designed to be the Alliance's answer to them. Same cost per figure, same speed, stun, a bit squishier but with range and added maneuvering tricks to make up for it... now they just need an Officer equivalent to zoom them around the map.

There is? If you watch the star wars movies, it seems to be the centre of the ****ing universe :P

Please, please, please make it so!

Gonna love painting that Bantha!!

Those were my exact same thoughts, even as a newbie painter!

I'm looking forward to when I have the confidence to paint other games without Sorastro's help. I'm looking at you Battlelore!

Why does everybody say the Alliance Smuggler will be good for campaign mode? I think it's going to be an awesome addition to skirmish because there are quite a few missions that instruct you to interact, so if you can interact and then get out of harm's way you'd have good control of the battlefield.

Because not everyone plays skirmish and their interest might just be with how it will affect the campaign.

****, this game is going to be expensive :P

I feel sorry for the Alliance Smuggler - how's he going to attract any attention being announced at the same time as that awesome looking Bantha!

What an odd wave. Don't get me wrong, I will still buy it, but it is strange.

Here is my take on it: at the end of the month at GenCon, they will announce the first big box expansion which will be Empire Strikes Back Themed, (Hoth, Bespin, Dagobah). It will probably be Wave 5 and include Leia and maybe Lando.

Why not announce wave 4 then, or as part of Wave 5?

Wave 4 is still Tatooine themed, so they want to associate it with Phase 1 IA, (Core/Twin Shadows/ Wave 2,3).

That is what makes sense to me at least.

I'd be quite happy with no more Imperial Assault Releases/Announcements until next year now.

I've still 'got' to get:

1-2 Rebel Troopers

1-2 Rebel Saboteurs

1-3 Wookiee Warriors

1 Stormtroopers

1-4 Hired Guns

1-4 Rebel Smugglers

1-2 Bantha Riders

Oh, that's no doubt exactly the case. It just seemed to me that people were implying that the Smuggler would be bad for skirmish. Perhaps I was just reading too much into it. He could be good for campaign, but he won't be a reliable ally because you have to randomly draw his mission and then win the mission, correct?

What I have experienced in the 6 campaigns I've played/currently playing is that when the rebels (of which I play as well as imperials) do get an ally, the cost of bringing the ally is often detrimental to the rebel player because the imperial player gets to spend that card cost on deploying more figures. When the imperial can drop 10+ threat points worth of figures on the map, the ally figure just doesn't seem to be worth that cost.

Now there is a rebel elite figure for just 4 points worth of imperial deployment which I think is much more manageable and I believe we will see rebels deploying an ally as opposed to not doing so.

Who knows though? Time will and experience will tell. :)

The first ability of the Elite Smuggler is called: 'Improved Smuggler's Instincts' - So I can only imagine that the regular version has the same ability, but perhaps only gets to move 1 space?

As a rebel Skirmish player I've gotta try and sneak one of these lovely Bantha Riders into a list. My first Draft is:

Sasja Teft (6) as her Shady Contacts ability will give me access to the big boy.

Bantha Rider (9)

Luke (10)

Elite Sab (7)

Gideon (3)

Mak (3)

Smuggler (2) Assuming the standard smuggler will only cost 2.

40 pts

7 activation's which is nice, could get 8 if subbed out Luke for another Elite Sab and another support unit (R2D2, C3P0 or a Smuggler). But i think Luke is worth keeping for his re-roll alone.
