is piracy allowed here ff?

By giogionis, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

why do you allow such a thing like shapeways links and stuff sold by other people on the forum im just ordered my armada box and man im really offended by suckers that wanna make a profit selling cheap stuff like that you the admins of ff forums should do something about it, its bad for your business in the long run and excuse my english im outside the usa.

im talking about this https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/175212-custom-3d-printed-ships/

cmon ff get some respect.

Ok, almost certainly a troll since its the only post, but i'm bored so i'll bite.

First off....it sure as hell 'aint cheap.

Second off, people like Mel have been supporting the X-Wing and Armada community (and likely others) for years now. It actually draws people further into the hobby and game, rather than loses FFG business. it's not like the people buying those ships dont also buy official ones, the rules, and so on. In my experience the "super fans" that shell out for the expensive Shapeways stuff tend to buy a lot MORE than more casual players.

Third....never mind third, it's rude :P

I see no problem with this. They still have to buy the ships for the base and cards.

But nothing wrong with spiffing up the fleet.

Can't seem to see the link and I'm a bit vague as to what he is describing. Clue?

Looks like the original thread was removed but he was probably referring to home designed add-on ships that FFG havent created... yet..

LOL, I don't get what he's complaining about then. Sure, people design ships but they won't be legal in tournament play.

I'm surprised he's not complaining about OTHER things people have made and sold that ARE legal in tournament play.

I want to point out that if "piracy" is ALLOWED (such as printing third party ships and selling them) it it is no longer piracy...

I hate, absolutely hate, the AFmk2 Space Guppy. I won't play that ship on the table, even knowing how much that handicaps a Rebel player like myself, so FFG isn't making a dime off me for that ship. But, I do very much like the look of the AFmk1's I've seen from Mel and Utar on Shapeways, so I could see me buying the FFG mk2, and then buying the mk1 to proxy that model. Meaning FFG makes money off me because of these PIRATES you're so worked up about.

I think the issue is that the reason they are buying from Shapeways is different than you think.

They are saying that they are buying the Assault Frigate MkII (from FFG) and then also buying a Shapeways model that they like better. They still purchased their product from FFG, but purchased an additional, separate piece from Shapeways that FFG doesn't sell.

They aren't shopping at Shapeways to circumvent purchasing FFG stuff. At least that's most people.

I wonder if he realizes that to use the "pirated stuff," people have to buy official stuff first anyway?

I mean, you could fashion your own homemade stuff if you wanted to... But you could do that without Shapeways too.
