The bank greens still don't make PTL work for Rex.
Beg to disagree as I used rex with PTL last night and he owned, two games 100-0 never lost more than three hit points total.

The Defender would be great if it had more, well, defense (pun intended). Such an expensive ship with no evade action is really meh. Or some other defensive upgrades (e-wings get r2d2 AND evade action, defenders gets nothing). Especially when this ship easily goes to 40 or even 50points for the named pilots.

I really do not miss the evade action. If the Defender had it, it wouldn't use it anyway. If you are not need the focus action, you are playing this ship not in an effective way.
The only time you'd evade is if you don't have a shot, given the white k turn that's a really hard position to find a defender in.
I'm pretty happy with the Defender as is, but if I had my pick, I'd give it a way to regenerate shields. It seems thematic as a heavy assault fighter, and it's an ability missing for Imperials.
I also think the defenders weak spot is its defence in comparison to costs of an upgraded ship. If you compare it to some of upgraded large ships and their costs it mostly is too easy of an target (green dice dependant).
Its similar to E-Wings only they have a way to regenerate and Biggs.
Edited by CaineHoAYes. You want to have HLCs on that ship. At least for the top guns. But then you turn it into a glass cannon. Its not like the IG-2000s. Its not even close.
Or you all could take a hint from Biophysical and realize that defenders are competitive, they just take good piloting to make them work for you.

Speak that truth brother!
The way I see it if you cannot fit 4 small ships of the one type into a list that ship type it is over costed...
Stopped reading here. A ship's stats, dial, actions and abilities have more to do with the points cost than base size. A Missile Boat would be a small based ship, and if their abilities and stats matched their performance in TIE Fighter, absolutely nobody would want to face four of them in a 100 point list...
Or to demonstrate how this "small base + > 25 points cost = overpriced" logic is fundamentally wrong...

or how I would like it to be fixed. When I look at the Defender I see a Delta worth 30 points but for 3 more I can take a FireSpray. Can only put 3 Defenders in a list with not a lot of upgrades, can put 3 FireSprays in a list and not care about upgrades. The way I see it if you cannot fit 4 small ships of the one type into a list that ship type it is over costed. since the points of a ship cannot really be changed we need to think of some other way to help what should be the scariest ship in the imperial navy out
Why not try a FREE Title that gives the Defender 5 free points to spend on secondary weapons. so a Delta could take a HLC for 2 points and all other cannons and Missiles free.
I don't think this would make them over powered as they still have a 1 & 2 sharp red and you could still only fit 3 of the in a list. 2 of them would be Deltas at PS 1. This could make them good Fat burners at 33 points (Delta Title HLC Twin Ion). Put 2 of them with Fel and I think it could be a good list. You could give them Mangler Cannon and pair them with the Tie Advanced for nothing but crit.
What do you think has someone suggested this before? is it over powered? or should I stay out of the sun for the rest of the day?
I would love to see you explain how 3 Bounty Hunters is overcosted.

And of course, Biophysical was running Defenders effectively BEFORE the Twin Ion Engine MkII upgrade was even spoiled - a card which makes the dial more forgiving and opens up the potential of upgrades like Push the Limit, Experimental Interface, Opportunist...

How to really fix the Defender:
Add a title card that makes it more like it's Star Wars: TIE Fighter version, rather than the X-Wing Alliance version that the rest of the EU uses.
TIE/x7
+1 Agi, +1 Hull, +3 Shields. ![]()

Charitably, Xwing Nut could have meant that any ship more than 25 points is too expensive for his or her taste, rather than being priced incorrectly.

It always bothered me where the TIE Defender's shield generators and hypedrive were, given it has pretty much the same size cockpit as a regular TIE Fighter/Interceptor...
ONE MORE WING! ONE HUNDRED TIMES TEH POWAH!

It's not so much the wing, it's the large hull section behind the cockpit that all of the wings attach to. Which the TIE Fighter is completely lacking.

Possible, but tenous. "Costs too much for my taste " and "over costed" aren't exactly synonymous.
"The Fix"
Overpriced ship only.
Cost 0
Hehe.
Biophysical isn't the only one running defenders successfully. I'm 18-2 with Rexler and either Kath or Boba. They just need to have the correct ship with them and be outfitted properly. Almost everyone I've beat said they felt the defender was too costly which I find quite ironic since Rexler has been the main ship standing at the end of almost all of the games.
I run Rexler with Predator,HLC and Stealth Device - action is always focus or barrel roll only.
My Kath support for him is Kath+Mangler+Predator+Gunner. and my Boba support for him is VI+HLC+Rebel Captive. Each ship is 50 points.
Last night I ran Rexler with Predator and Chiraneau with PTL,EU,RC and Ysanne. I went 1-1 with this build. Got a double damaged sensors on Chiraneau or I would have won that game too. The build I beat was a triple dagger squadron Bwing with HLC and FCS.
I love the defender and I'm not sure I'd replace Stealth Device with MKII. I don't need the greens. Most of my builds don't care about stress and I like to roll as many green dice as I can.

Mk2 doesn't make Experimental Interface viable for Defenders.
I'm guessing that, like Ynot, most people who've figured out a points-heavy build they like with the Defender will prefer it over the MkII. I'm certainly in that boat. If you like and have had success with the Defender right now, you've figured out how to use its dial as is, and don't like giving up your defensive upgrades for the greens. All of that being said, if this card gets more people to try the Defender and find new ways to run it, that's awesome.

Good point. Clearly got overexcited after playing around with Tycho Celchu builds. Please replace with Elusiveness (for the lulz).
Edited by FTS GeckoOne problem is the defenders don't have many synnergies with their named pilots. Rexlar Brath for example, would see more play if there were more Imperial methods for ensuring he had a focus after he attacks and deals damage. Colonel Vessery might be better off if there were some way of making him even better with a target lock.
One solution might be a Defender title that says "When attacking, if you have a target lock on the Defender, the Defender rolls one less defence dice."
That would obviously make Vessery better, but would also allow Brath to become significantly more powerful. He'd have to take a target lock... but if he was able to hold out one more turn he could turn that focus into a murderfest. This title would also be useful for the generic pilots, though you may need to restrict the pilot skill of the title, depending on balance.
A title like this could also help more Shuttles see play, since Jendon would now have some awesome synergy with it.
I need to brush the dust off my Defenders and give them a go again. I just got frustrated with them against Phantoms when I was actively trying to fly them. Phantoms were very prevalently in my area and absolutely wreck Defenders. But that was X-wing P.P.N. (Pre Phantom Nerf). Now I don't see them all too often.
I think the MKII's will help when running a solo or maybe even a triple list of Defenders. I still want a title though that adds either some sort of extra action economy, boost, or makes secondaries cheaper.
Title. Tie AD/ x7A. After you perform a barrel roll action you may perform a free evade action. 0 points

Brath has ways of getting a focus... Fleet Officer, Squad Leader, and the upcoming Emperor. With good ole' Palpy, he can hopefully get a decent attack roll and keep the focus. Not as ideal as what the Rebels can do, but its something.
Vessery has in my opinion one of the best abilities in the game. Top 5 at least. He's just an a very expensive ship and needs TLs out there. Your title would only really work with Vessery and you wouldn't be able to spend the TL when you attack. As soon as you spend it the ability doesn't work. Vessery will be fine and be seen quite often when his favorite wingmen come in flying the Tie Advanced. Until then there weren't very many cheap options in the Imperial fleet to get him the TL he needs.

Thats just how a tractor beam could work like. I guess you had that in your mind.
