Han Solo Prequel

By 2P51, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Yeah, just saw that. It might be good, I dunno, but it's not something I particularly want. Give me new stuff!

Hmmm, I wonder when I'll get Star Wars overload...?

Hmmm, I wonder when I'll get Star Wars overload...?

Not humanly possible. A true fan is a black hole to new content and devours it mercilessly and without end...

I wonder if this announcement and the recent one that 1313 is being worked on are related, if when Disney took over they said "hey we want to make a Bobba Fett movie, let's hold 1313, re-develop it in a newer engine but keep the world building and story elements. Then we release it around the same time and keep everything in cannon"

It's a long time to wait to release 1313 (December 2018?) but a 3 year development isn't out of the question.

Wait, what? Where did you see that 1313 is being worked on?

Yeah... You forgot "without prejudice" ... Legends proved that...;)

I'm starting to feel apprehensive about all this new stuff. Perhaps I'll convert to trekism... :P:ph34r:

It all comes down to the casting on this film. They need to find someone with Harrison Ford's swagger and roguish style. He needs to be portrayed as a redeemable rogue in the film to remain consistent with his arc in A New Hope where he started out in it for the money but came back at the key moment.

The Han Solo Trilogy by A.C. Crispen would make for great material to mine for such a project even if they don't stick to the story religiously., I highly recommend the books if you're a reader and fan of Han, it tells the tale of his swashbuckling beginnings right up until the moment Chewbacca spoke to a certain old Jedi Master in the Tatooine cantina. There's a tale of a lost love interest, how he ended up getting up to his neck with Jabba the Hutt, and tons of more great character development.

Open for Spoiler:

In the official Star Wars comics they've introduced a mysterious character named Sana Solo who will be more fleshed out in issue #8 who is supposedly Han's wife or ex-wife. The comics have been great but I'm not too excited about this move; I prefer the A.C. Crispen material better.

So essentially, Young Indiana Jones ?

While it may be good, I'd prefer newer characters and stories to follow, rather than seeing prequel films for all the existing characters. There is so many stories to tell in the galaxy, why follow the same dozen or so characters so relentlessly?

Maybe we get Star Wars Anthologies: Beggars Canyon - the story of a young Luke and Biggs as they drag race in their t-16's and bullseye womp rats.

If they have to make a young Han Solo movie (and, apparently, Disney has decided that they do), they could do a lot worse than hiring Phil Lord and Christ Miller to direct. I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'd like to see all new content as well but I'm not going to fault Disney too much either for going with Han Solo. Pulling the trigger on solid 9 figure projects is no decision made lightly I'm sure, and I'm fairly confident they don't just flip a coin.

Because, and I am just spit balling here, they need to invigorate the franchise first. Get the people into it again before they start taking financial risks...

There is a reason antman is part of the 3rd wave of Avengers movies or why Guardians come around somewhere in the late second wave.

I guess I would love to see an IG-88 movie, or a Bosk movie or even a Kit Fisto movie before a "young solo" movie, but we as knowledgeable invested fans are not the target audience. However, I am pretty sure we will get to see the more obscure sides of the galaxy eventually.

The new trilogy is pretty much solid new content . Yes they did bring the original cast back, but they're also introducing completely new characters as well . Rogue one obviously introduces new characters . So it's not like Disney is just resting on its laurels by doing a Han Solo movie .

Wait a minute... you can't say "why follow a dozen or so characters so relentlessly" and follow it with "[Let's do] Luke and Biggs!"

Besides, if you want some of that, get the radio audiobook of the original Star Wars... it has all of that and still keeps the whine...

The new trilogy basically does what I said as well but on microlevel. It uses the old cast to take old viewers in by the hand and then (probably) hands over the reins to a new cast of characters.

I think Rogue One will be the movie that ties together the Rebels series and the OT.

Yeah, I agree it is not like Disney is playing it safe.

I'm looking forward to everything, until I'm given a reason not to :)

I just really hope we still get the rumoured Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan project.

Maybe I was being sarcastic with the beggars canyon line..

I'm not saying the movie couldn't be entertaining (Larry Kasdan is co-writing it, after all), but I'm not looking forward to two hours of some young guy pretending to be Harrison Ford. River Phoenix pulled it off, but he only had to do it for fifteen minutes.

this . thought it's cool to see Han Solo story , i prefered if they did a KOTOR movie or based on KOTOR universe. Or seeing a movie based on the comics / books like Dark Plagueis or Jacen Solo .Anyway it was so many years without Star Wars movies that i'm kinda happy to see 3 confirmed so far ( 1 this year :D:D )

Robot Chicken should do the Han Solo prequel

Oh dear gods, no to kotor. I'd rather a jar-jar movie. I truly hated those games. Absolutely no redeeming qualities to them.

Well, aren't you a joy!

Like many people have stated the reason they are doing movies with the original characters is because everyone knows they. If they put out a Han Solo movie how many people do you think know that name? A whole lot of people will recognize that name and go, "hey guys I am bored what movie should we watch. Han Solo movie? Heck yes, I know that name!" Instead of a movie about Kit Fisto.
