I was going to mention that one. Rise of the Planet of the Apes probably ought to qualify, as well. And if you want to look at comic books, how about the Wolverine series Origin? (Not the similarly-titled movie.) For novels, think about CS Lewis' The Magician's Nephew... or the Han Solo novels written by AC Crispin, which are undoubtedly on the chopping block here but were pretty well executed Star Wars by EU standards.

If Disney wants a ton of money why don't they just make a new Star Wars Space Sim game and charge 90 bucks for it?
