Melee combat

By Mashman, in Rogue Trader

What class would be the best at melee combat ???

Arch Militant, technically, though virtually all of them could be decked out to be well and truly fearsome.

A valid assumption, but very, very wrong. Arch Militants are okay at melee combat, and if they want to excel at it, they must be a bruiser type (barring Elite Advances). The key distinction on which I base my argument, though there are several, is Lightning Attack. They don't get it. Or an early Swift Attack at that.

Arch-militants are mainly gun nuts.

...The actual melee characters are the Rogue Trader and Missionary. Also, the Explorator is at least as melee heavy as the Militant, what with the Sacred Axes of Cleaving Faces Very Precisely and In a Quite Technical Manner .

Well i was looking for something like the Assassien style ? And i mention that a Missonary is abit Brutal with Chain sword, and that kind of stuff. But a Rogue trader i more regonize as a... Yeah a fither with abit more style, but if in our game the rogue trader spot was already taken what would it be then ?

Keep in mind that the PC's class does not necessarily reflect their position on the ship. A PC could easily have the class of Rogue Trader, yet not be THE Rogue Trader that commands the ship. There are numerous ways to justify this, if you feel the need to. They are a younger relative, or from another RT family and being 'apprenticed', for example. They could also just be someone who has skills in trading, communication, and command, etc i.e the skills that the rogue trader class provides. Perhaps an ex-pirate captain that the RT spared and took for his own crew, or an old Imperial Navy captain/buddy. And so on. I'll repeat, the PC's class does not directly correspond to the PC's position on the ship. Their class might provide them with the skills to fill a specific position, but is not the position itself. The RT class gets piloting, so it is possible that a RT class character could be the ships pilot rather than a void master class PC, for example. Ship positions are based (or should be if the players are smart) upon the PCs' skills.

So, even though there is already an RT class PC, go ahead and make your own RT class PC. You can focus on melee, and the RT class PC who is planned to be in the ship's RT position can spread more into Fellowship skills.
