Scum Bombers: Emon and "Genius"

By FiresprayAndPray, in X-Wing

Scum had some interesting bomb users in it's folds. Specifically a Y-wing equipped with "Genius" ,and Emon Azzamen. Both got a lot more tools to utilize in the upcoming wave. So far we have:

Cluster Mines

Connor Net

Ion Bomb (Seems like it would be hilarious to run up to a group with "Genius" and drop a bomb in the middle of them.)

Bombardier( this might be a bit redundant with Emon's ability, but she is only 1 pt)

Extra Munitions (Now the Y-wing can run 2 bombs or Emon can take Slave 1 if he wants to make carrying 2 bombs cheaper)

Does anyone have ideas for using these two guys in any lists? I'm sure this wave will make Emon more potent, but I'm also curious to see if "Genius" will be better due to Ion bombs.

I imagine people who are pretty expert at bomb placement will be able to make good work of Genius. There's just so many good salvaged astromechs gaaa

The main problem with Genius is that you want to run it on a high PS pilot. Which really limits you to Kavil. You can run Genius on a lowly Thug, but there is no guarantee anybody will be there to be hit by your bomb, unless they are PS 1.

I've always got an Emon-piloted Andrasta whenever I make a Scum build. I cannot to attach the new gear from the K-Wing and TIE/Pun to it.

If you're running Emon and a syndicate thug with Genius, a way to get around this is Intelligence Officer. It'll help you see where at least one ship is going so you can drop a bomb right where you need to. I would also have engine upgrade on the thug to boost out of the bomb's radius.

IMO the genius astromech is totes Chopper from Star Wars Rebels.

Then you don't drop it.

You should be able to block a ship in order to drop a proton bomb on them.

How about some board control mixed with cluster mines and ions?

Emon Azzamen 36pts

Slave 1 0 pts

Extra Munitions 2 pts

Cluster Mines 4 pts

Gunner 5 pts

47 total

Kavil

Bomb Load out 0pts

Extra munitions 2pts

"Genius" 0pts

Engine Upgrade 4 pts

Ion Bombs 2pts

Autoblaster Turret 2 pts

34 total

N'Dru Suhlak 17 pts

Lone Wolf 2 pts

19 pts total

97 pts for the overall bid

3 pts for initiative bid or if you want, swap out the ions on Kavil for Proton bombs which will be equally hilarious. Engine upgrade means Kavil can stick a bomb and then boost away while setting up shots out of his turret.

Thanks for that article EdgeofDreams, that was really helpful.

Edit: Whoops, I didn't calculate Engine Upgrade for some reason. Bumps the price up to 34, so it would cost 100 sadly. If you wanted, you could replace Gunner with Intelligence Agent, reducing the list's points by 4. But then your Firespray would be pretty generic once it dumps the mines. Or replace Gunner with a K3 Security Droid to free up points for VI on Kavil. There is a good bit of wiggle room for tinkering.

Don't forget advanced sensors and bombs on aggressors. They can maneuver and then drop their bombs to nasty effect.

I ddon't follow?

A low PS will move first so you will know exactly where the enemy is. Fly right up to their known location (as they haven't moved yet) and drop your bomb right on them.

Whereas Kavil will move later, after all but the high PS aces. In order to reposition for movement, you have loaded him with engine upgrade or SOT, aswell as the bomb load and I presume his turret (waste of his ability if no turret) in which case he is rather costly for a Y wing, how does he drop bombs better with genius than a rent-a-bomber Thug?

Broadly speaking, mines work well on lower PS pilots while bombs (as opposed to Bombs, the general upgrade type) work better on high PS pilots.

Mines detonate when they land on someone or when someone moves over them, meaning, like you said, it is advantageous to know exactly where they are when you are planning your move. If you move first there is no chance they will not be where you think they will be when you move and spend your action to drop the mine.

bombs, on the other hand, detonate at the end of the activation phase, after EVERYONE has moved. In this case it is advantageous to know where they are going to be AFTER they move. If you move before them you have to decide whether or not to drop the bomb before you know if they are going to fly out of its area of effect, so it is advantageous to move after the enemy so that you are certain where they will be when the bomb detonates.

Genius only functions with bombs (the ones that detonate at the end of the activation phase), which are the bombs that favor high PS pilots.

I don't know. I'd rather run andrasta with 3 bombs than slave 1/extra munitions for 2 bombs. I know that it means 6pts for 2 cluster mines which is fantastic, but mo bombs, mo probs (for the enemy).

Exactly. I've dropped many a bomb only to have a higher PS pilot boost or barrel roll out of the blast radius.

With the Extra Munitions/Slave 1 combo with Emon, I'm more inclined to add a K4 Security Droid and some missiles to the mix. Either Ion Pulse for extra control, either one of the 4-5 points for extra long range punch.
