Draw their fire

By Cununculus, in X-Wing Rules Questions

You fly a bomber with ordnance and one black squadron tie fighter with draw rheir fire.

If the bimber suffers an uncancellef critical hit you may shift it to the tie.

Question: are you allowed to look what kind of critical hit it is before you assign the critical hit to the tie? Or do you have to deside this before you flip the card face up?

You may choose to pass the uncanceled crit dice result. Once the TIE has the result, draw a faceup damage card.

After dice have been cancelled Draw their fire shifts an uncancelled kaboom result. Then uncancelled die results are converted into the appropriate kind of damage. Then damage is applied to shields. Then remaining damage is converted into damage cards.

So, no. By the time you are looking at face up cards DTF has long since done its thing.

You have to decide to use DtF long before you have any idea what card would be drawn by it.

If you have an A-Wing with DtF and Determination you would need to use DtF long before you know if you would be getting a Ship card or a Pilot. If you KNOW you would be getting a Pilot card you'd likely use DtF but because you do not have that information taking the [crit] is a huge risk and a reason you never see that combination.
