Army expansion question!

By ShadowLink0987, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey guys! Just recently picked up the core set of armada! So far I've only had the chance to play one game, but I'm loving this!

I was wondering what the best way to go about buying new expansions for this would be! It is very likely for myself and the area I am in right now that I will be supplying both rebel and imperial armies until I start getting more people interested in it!

The core question here being, what are good numbers of each of wave one to get so that the armies will be reasonably balanced against each other?

I read somewhere that one each of the capital ships, and 2-3 of each squadron packs would be reasonable. I am just looking for the popular opinion on this frkm others with more experience than myself. I just don't want to end up with an overly powered imperial or rebel half for my games, but I would like to use as much as possible (within reason). As I said, something akin to one each ship of the wave one expansion was suggested to me already.

As a bit of a Showcase, I got 1 of everything in Wave 1... That way I have one of every card to show, etc. I'll probably be doing the same Wave 2, 1 of everything, before I decide on wether to specialise with a single Fleet Construction method.

So far I have only purchased ships that complement my play style. Each ship has a role and can be further specialized.

If you like slow moving fleets that can bring fighters with them with less on the board to control get VSDs, Guppies or Neb-Bs.

If you want to joust get a Neb-B

If you want fast moving ships that wont last long but work great in groups get the GSD or corvettes.

If you want a jack of all trades fleet get one of everything.

I would strongly recommend checking out fabs fleet generator and see what kind of fleets you can put together with the ships you are interested in. If you are happy with the results just buy what you need.

I guess I should rephrase a little here. I suppose my question should have been more along the lines of: if I have a core set and buy one of each wave one ship, and two of each wave one squads, is the resulting imperial and rebel lista likely to be balanced?

I am basically providing armies for demoing and expanding new players into the game.

You will have more than enough to build Balanced forces out of, and in varying ways.

Buy at least one copy of each expansion for the variety.

As a rule, I buy two small ships for one faction for every large ship I buy for the other. That makes it reasonably balanced and gives me enough room to experimentwith different builds.

I got 1 of everything and an extra Nebulon-B.

Get 1 of everything. Play a few builds, try out all the ships. If any suit your play style, consider buying an additional one if you think you can fit it in a list (less likely for more expensive ones). Bear in mind that Wave 2 will be with use in a few months (hopefully) - fleet size moves up to 400 points but you will have greater variety of ships to field, so the cheaper ones are much more likely to be fielded in multiples.
