mkII tie engine.

4x Tempest with title, AC, MK II, and advanced homing missile.

If we assume that ahm makes an attack that ignores evades I think that this list will beat the Thunderstruck list against anything with decent evade dice. 8 guaranteed damage at range 2 and ships that have much better dials when stressed seems really scary.

Adding the MK II upgrade to TIE Defenders also has a more obscure affect. The MK II opens up doing red maneuvers since they can now clear the stress pretty easily. This alone makes the Defender much less predictable. Before the MK II Defenders were one of the most predictable ships in the game IMO.

Very true. Doing the 1 hard can really throw your opponent off, but without a good means to clear the stress, it is often a less ideal move. Now with access to more greens, those hard turns become more of an option. Too bad you don't have a sensor slot in the Defender...

I fail to grasp this logic. Engine Upgrade is a +4 point upgrade to make an already-allegedly-overcosted ship slightly more viable. If you're willing to pay four points for a totally unnecessary action why would you be afraid of paying one point to help make the same ship MUCH less predictable when shedding stress?

Well, you're comparing modifications that are not equivalent. A green bank maneuver and a boost action:

1) do not accomplish the same thing (shedding stress vs. micro-maneuvering)

2) should not be mutually exclusive.

A reasonable dial helps Defender to be more competitive, but obtaining that now has the opportunity cost of your modification slot. The Engine MK II will likely be a "must-have" upgrade for the Defender, so you're paying that +1 point premium AND forgoing the ability to further upgrade your Defender with commonplace modifications like Stealth Device, Engine Upgrade, and shield/hull. It's not like Chaardan Refit on the A-wing where you're probably not using that slot anyway.

The Engine MK II is a good attempt at a Defender fix, but it does limit build diversity.

I sincerely hope no one sane puts SD on a defender, it only works on squints when used with AT.

Green dice will back stab you.

It works with Lone Wolf.

SoT Tetran Cowall just got even more unpredictable...

I'm pretty sure he went with sheild upgrades in the list I saw:

A quick Google hasn't found a DD list with stealth do you have a link?

The Stealth Device came in at "step 3", which is on the front page of the battle reports forum right now.

48 point PTL Rexler with HLC that can TL to mod dice and save focus to crit is gonna tear apart big ships, team him with VI vessery to strip shields and double D is gonna get more play.

This is definitely a build option. I tried this out as my first double defender build, but I couldn't really get it to work in practice. Extra greens might be the trick. It does hit the holy grail of getting to use both pilot abilities in the same turn.

Well vessery gets two actions effectively anyway so giving Rexler two ups your options yes you lose hull upgrade but I think the increased damage output makes up for that.

Even if you have to break formation Rexler can still TL for vessery without dropping his expected damage to 1.5.

You've got the tournament experience I'm looking forward to seeing what you do.

Just mulling it over a bit makes me think that PTL/VI is the max damage option. When everything goes right, this combo will hurt the other player the most. Predator/whatever is more conservative. It opens your options up a bit, and keeps your damage up when stressed or bumping.

The question is. Does TIEMK2 trump SD on LW. If so, is there a better card than LW, PTL maybe, Predator? Outmaneuver?

Night Beast like new engine.

I'd go with PtL/Opportunist/Outmaneuver on TIE MkII, SD on LW/Predator

Out of those thinking PTL.

TL/focus being a favourite choice.

Ahh well i missed that then apologies to sithborg.

Unless Rex is running with Vessary, I'd probably still give him Predator over PTL. It works regardless of whether he's stressed, so he can execute those hard 1s.

And don't underestimate those turns. Between the current lack of Defender representation in the meta, and the fact that people are so reluctant to stress them, a lot of opponents will tend to forget that you even have the ability to knife-fight like that. You can really catch people off-guard by doing a hard-1 where they were expecting a K-turn.

Night Beast like new engine.

I was wondering about this. It's 1 pt and only adds 3 bank as a green. Is that worth it? Maybe so.

I think it's not a mistake on Night Beast. TIE fighters like being up close, a fastergreen move seems useful.

It certainly would add another 16 pt option to compete with Backstabber/Dark Curse/Scimitar

Still, it's +1 point to make an already-overcosted ship slightly more viable, and precludes your ability to take Engine Upgrade.

totally unnecessary action

Laugh all you want, I've never really loved EU on Defenders. My double list has always run defensive mods.

Same never played a game and wished i had EU.

I won't run a defender without EU. but now I might.
