How do you intend to barrel roll after using your action to drop a bomb? Deathrain has no EPT, so you can't PTL and EI triggers an "action" card after an action, so you couldn't use it to drop the bomb first.I want ALL the Twin ion cards.
Deathrain will work great with Advanced Sensors. Drop an action bomb, barrel roll to the side, fly away, profit.
And Redline having two target locks? I throw my cluster missiles at you, I re-roll! I take another 2 with FCS, I throw the second attack at you, I RE-ROLL!!! And I still have 2 on you for the next turn with my extra munitions!
Bonkers.
EDIT: I suppose you could use a Squad Leader to pass him an action, but at PS6 there aren't a lot of Imperial pilots that can, and only Vader has actions to spare.

Deathrain also get a free barrel roll action after dropping a bomb. Note that the Punisher doesn't have Barrel roll action natively.
Deathrain + Extra Munition + Conner Net + Conner Net = Let Me Show You The Exit.
For 36 points, you can fly a 61 points Fat Han out of the map in no time.
Seeing that the Punisher is the exact same points as the Tie Advanced it's hard not to compare. I'm no MJ but it is easy to tell that the new T/A kicks this ship to the curb hard in terms of dogfighting efficiency.
You have to really utilize the upgrade slots (and boost) to make up for it.
That said, the 2 named pilots are really good I think.
Deathrain will probably also love an Experimental Interface. Move, boost to adjust position, use EI to drop a bomb in someone's face, then barrel roll out. Can't wait to see Deathrain shove some unpleasantness in someone's face.
Redline with FCS and EM could actually see a munitions heavy list be a thing?
Large ships will not like those cluster mines at all though the no critical moderates them some what. Potentially if the stars align... with Deathrain you could cluster a large base two turns in a row if you manage to block the target in place. Drop forward one turn then drop behind you the next!
Looks like a really solid expansion that could make taking a large base ship more thought provoking.
YES!!!
The ultimate Turret killing trio:
Redline + Plasma Torps + EM + CMs + ATs
Cutlass + CMs + EM + Accuracy Corrector x 2
27 Hitpoints of turret killing hate.
So much for the prediction that FFG would never give a 2 attack ship a Sensor slot because of Accuracy Corrector.
I like how Cluster Mines can instantly detonate on large ship (all of them, if you place them right), but will only partially detonate if placed under a small ship.
I'm still gonna call it the TIE DoubleDown, but they done good.
Trying to convince myself I don't need three of each of the small ships...
Why would you need 3 of each?
For the upgrade cards. Cluster Mines for Emon Andrastra, Twin Ion Engine Mk2, mainly.
Would you actually play a squad with more then 4 ships using Twin Engine?
For the new mines i would suggest testing them before you buy additional ships to get them. Maybe they arent even that good and you dont need 3 of them. Its also likely that they will come again in any future releases.

Err maybe not? Depends on the timing..
Edited by LucCrosAnybody notice with the new Mk2 upgrade it gives the defender a total of 9 green maneuvers while an awing has only 8?

Without upgrades the Punisher is just a 2 attack B-Wing with an extra shield for a point less. BBBBZ wouldn't be all that effective if it was only throwing 10 red dice.
Very interesting. I like the Cluster Mines. I think they are worth it. Too bad crits don't work, but hey, they are still good. Emon will love them. They are good to drop on all those arc dodgers like Stealth Soontir or Phantoms.
I still want to see Adv Homing Missiles. I will want to use Major Rhymer with them. I'm expecting 3 red dice that you can't use green dice against, much like mines.
Mk II engines are neat, but not crazy good. They will be great on Defenders and Tie Adv. I wonder if they are worth it for Nightbeast? It only adds 3 bank green, but for him, it might be worth it.
AutoThrusters on these seem to be a waste. You only get one die and what are the chances of rolling a blank? 3 of 8? I dunno. I'd rather use Sensor Jammer instead. In fact, I'm surprised they didn't mention Sensor Jammer. It's a great way to keep an expensive target alive for a little bit longer.
Overall good stuff. I'll get one or two Punishsers, but I'm still not sure I'd fly them over my Tie Bomber yet.
Edit: You may go about your business. Move along.

Add in Advanced Sensors, you just keep bumping so you don't get shot.

No it won't. You finish executing everything that triggers from the EI before you apply the stress.
So I guess my question is, does the Punisher come with two Cluster Mine token sets? Since obviously the intention is for you to run them with Extra Munitions.
Doesn't look like it.

I think the TIE advanced already put paid to that one.

That notion should have died as soon as the TIE/x1 title was spoiled last December.

I might be wrong but i think you get stress after triggering EI. Hence you cannon use the free barrelroll action after that

Wow, yes! The Punisher also has good 1 banks and 1 forward (2forward for large ships), so it can "escort" ioned ships very well!
A single point for six more green manoeuvres? What more could you possibly need?
TONIGHT THE DEFENDERS DINE ON REBEL FLESH
autothrusters
While we're wishing, I'd like a mechanized pony that breathes fire.
But seriously, ten green manoeuvres and a white K-Turn, I am totally on board. Large turrets already have a hard time punching through three AGI guarding three shields, Focus helps, and now that PTL is an option? BLOOD AND THUNDER

But that one could be chalked up to FFG making an exception to fix a horrible ship.
Wow a preview thread that HASN'T erupted into a rules argument?? Keep up the good work guys
:D
Seriously though, the Interdictor is looking good.

You're right that you might be wrong. The stress doesn't hit until after you finish resolving everything that comes from EI.

Yeah, you have the timing wrong. His barrel roll is basically an Interrupt.
1) Deathrain executes normal action.
2) That action triggers EI, which allows him to drop bomb as free action.
3) Dropping the bomb interrupts the EI action, allowing him to execute a free Barrel Roll.
4) EI resumes, which deals Deathrain a stress token.
sigh. I really wish the Onyx had an EPT slot now. Such annoying useless design. FFG.
