Battlefoam Box Organizer

By vadersson, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hey gang,

Battlefoam is having their annual 4th of July sale that ends today. They offer what looks like a nice box organizer for the core game. Has anyone gotten one of these? I am seriously considering both the miniatures tray option or the full option with room for tiles and everything.

As a campaign player, I don't plan to get any Ally or Villain expansions so I think the number of spots works well (Until Twin Suns).

Thoughts?

Hey gang,

I decided to go ahead and get the full box organizer. I'll let you all know how it works when I get it.

Thanks,

Duncan

I have the PACK-432 organizer with the Imperial Assault load out. There are a few things I wish were a little different like making the slots fit for sleeved cards, the token slots, etc. but overall it's really nice. It keeps my painted minis in much better shape than the foam core insert I made (plus there is room in this version for expansions, ally, and villain packs).

Yeah, I picked up a Pack 432 for my X-wing stuff finally. But I got just the box inserts for this as I basically only play campaign. I am hoping to protect my minis better this way.

Thanks for the comment.

Duncan

I have the battlefoam organizer and it works very well. I do hate it for the card items, because all my cards are sleeved. I used a prize X-Wing store kit box (han solo) and store all the cards in that, leaving skirmish out of the mix. I have the core and one of every expansion in the battlefoam and it works great! You have to double up stormtroopers, imperial officers, and anything else you can, but it will hold a TON.

I still have baggies for the smaller map pieces (anything with 2 or 4 squares) as well as bag with health/strain/activation/focus/bleeding/stunned tokens, and a bag for dice. The box doesn't quite close with all the paperwork, but its within 1/2" of its original size.

Hey gang,

Just an update. I got my Battlefoam organizer right before I left for GenCon and only last night got to load it up. Not bad. The minis mostly fit nicely, but only for the core set. The E-Webs have a power cord that sticks out some and does not quite fit. All the tiles and everything do fit pretty nicely in the lower section. The areas for counters however are pretty generic and I may have to change how I do them. Overall it is nice, but could have been better. The lack of holding sleeved cards is not a problem for me, but I could see it being an issue for others.

Overall I give it a 6 of 10 so far. The organization tray gets a 5 of 10 while the minis tray gets more of a 7.5 of 10. If you are just playing campaigns (like me) it seems nice enough. (Better than an empty box.) If you are a serious skirmish player, I think getting the BFM or BFL trays for a PACK bag is a better idea,

Thanks,
Duncan

I purchased the one for the original box for imperial assault. It is a good attempt but bad execution in my opinion. I love the overall design but the outer walls need at least about 1/16th or 1/8th of an inch taken off around the edges. At its current size it presses the box walls out and it makes the lid hard to open/close. It would have been awesome if they would have fixed it so it would work properly. Other than that I do like the layout of the foam for the core set.

I was extremely disappointed with it. Looks like the only way I'll be able to get a box tray to fit everything is to set aside some serious time (barely have the time to get my painting in) and get designing/building one for myself.

I bought this from a different thread and can't express how happy I am with it.

Pern, does it have room for expansion?

It fit all of wave 1. So no room for Boba Fett and his friends, but perfect for Weiss (assembled), IG and 1 Pack of the rest of that wave

I own one of these as well. Some of the card space is unnecessary and can be used more effectively. Although there is no space for Twin shadows figs or tiles, you can fit everything else including the skirmish, upgrade, class, command, deployment, item, and supply cards in the current box as well as all the new tokens. I plan on taking my Sabs out and placing them with the other expansion figs so I can get the new heroes in the box with the rest of the campaign stuff.

I am surprised by that. Mine does fit everything, I just think it could have been done better. Are you trying to fit in the wave 1 expansions too? I will admit that the battlefoam only holds the core game with no real room for expansions. Not sure what I will do when Twin Suns gets here.

Hmm, it sounds pretty underwhelming.

My hopes are out for http://go7gaming.com/vote/ to create a propor storage solution

So not to take away from the conversation of purpose-built storage solutions, but this is what I did - a Plano 4 by 3700 Storage System

http://www.planostoragesolutions.com/products/119-4-by-3700-stowaway-system.aspx

I've had success with Plano (or a competitor) type storage system in the past, and it was 1/3 of the cost, plus it gave me some versatility.

- 1 x storage box for all non-hero minis

- 1 x storage box for all of the card decks

- 1 x storage box for all of the hero minis, their ACTIVE cards and their decks. This allows me to pack up play at the end of the night quickly and know which character has what cards (from their decks, from the item cards and reward cards).

- 1 x storage box with a "TBD" application

I then bought a smaller storage box to hold all of the damage markers, strain markers, etc. (anything used in normal board play), and that I can take off the top to minimize its table space usage. This also fits nicely in the top of the case.

I just keep all of the tiles in a large ziplock right now in the top.

For the next mission, I create a smaller ziplock with just the tiles for that mission in it, with the mission card (so I know what mission they belong to). This makes setup go WAY faster at the beginning.

ATSTs right now are loose, but I'm on the hunt for another smaller box that will fit in the top portion.

The Top is also big enough to hold all of the books, and I use a binder with laminated paper pages to hold printouts of rules, campaign logs and the expansion sheets, so they don't get damaged.

Then, on the top portion, I can hold all of the dice (2 sets) and pens/pencils.

Total cost: Less than $60.

Just thought I'd share to generate some ideas for others. If I can figure out how to upload a picture (for some reason this is eluding me), I can show how I have it all setup.

There are always lots of different storage options. I have yet to play IA since I have my box organizer. It will be interesting to see how that impacts the game. I'll report then. Maybe I can get a game in this weekend.

Thanks,
Duncan

I don't think there is much in the way of wasted space. There is room for additional cards but I don't see how you could fit in another expansion like twin shadows. I believe the creators plan is to use the main case for cards and when twin shadows finally comes out, use that box for additional tiles and figures.

It's a really well made product. I'd be shocked if someone could do something as well and somehow fit twin shadows in the core box.

Not to mention with the way trays are laid out it cut my setup and breakdown time in half easily and the little token trays are fantastic during play for keeping the mess to a minimum

Well, I wouldn't say wasted space, I'd say extra space. And this is why you can fit all the cards of Twin shadows and probably even Return to Hoth in the current set up. But yes, no room for tiles or figs. Gonna have to put those in the expansion boxes.

Hi, Duncan!

Well for me, it didn't allow for my sleeved cards, then replacing the core box token characters with their miniatures (still all part of the core), putting all the tiles and other extra pieces all in one open area (is that really organized?).

Just not enough thought into it for what I need.

I'm really glad it works for you though. Everyone is different.

Cheers! :)

It died for me when they wrote this:

The card slots do not fit sleeved cards.

Ah, yes it does not work well at all with sleeved cards. Plus once you have more character beyond the base set you out grow it. I wish they could have been a bit better with the layout to leave space for expansion. Oh well, at least I have some organization.

Thanks,

Duncan
