Scatter token at end game

By Kramit The Frog, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked. I've looked around and have been unable to locate a concise answer.

In my game this afternoon, we decided to play a no turn limit game. So no objectives and no turn limit. A deathmatch essentially. It became apparent that, as I had gone ship focused, and my opponent had gone squadron focused, that his hero A-wing would become basically invulnerable should my squadrons be eliminated. We joked about it coming down to only that hero A-wing and a V2SD. Well of course that's what it came down to. I had the crew panic critical, 8/10 dmg (Admiral Motti) and no engineering orders cued. Thus I was doomed. But, had we been in a similar situation, I see a stalemate occurring:

A V2SD only able to make 1 atk per round due to the squadron only being able to be in one firing arc, and it's engineering able to repair any dmg received

+

The hero A-wing able to scatter once a round

=

Endless cycle? It seems to me that I must be missing something. Because there is no way a squad of A-wings could perpetually go toe to toe with a V2SD.

What am I missing/misinterpreting, how would you break this cycle?

Well if you lose all your ships, you lose. The A-wing can't be both moving and attacking without squadron commands from some sort of ship. The win to break the cycle would be to finish off any remaining ships.

Yeah, you automatically loose if you have no ships, so a VSD vs just fighters, the VSD wins.

Ok well that settles that. One more related question now, can accuracy rolls be used against squadrons' defense tokens? (originating from either ships or squads?). And I guess vice versa too then, can squadrons use accuracy against ship defense tokens? From the way I had read the rules, unless affected by an ability, squadrons only dealt in hit rolls, ignoring blanks, accuracy, and crits. I think I'm misunderstanding something fundamental here...

Squadrons Ignore Crits, To and From, unless there is a rule (such as Bomber) saying otherwise...

The rules make no mention of Accuracy being discounted, ergo, Accuracy works as normal, in both directions.

its just usually, there's only 1 dice being thrown around, to and from (either Ship Anti-Squadron, or Bombing, but there are exceptions)... Which makes an Accuracy result moot, as they only apply *to that attack*.

And all the lights are on (hopefully lol) Thanks everyone!

Just to add to what Drasnighta said, Accuracy is hugely important when attacking squadrons with Scatter, so a large pool of blue dice is best . Don't forget that if attacking from a ship, you can use ConFire to get 1 extra die on one attack to increase your chances of Accuracy (and essential if you only have 1 die to begin with).

The only other way of dealing with Scatter is just to make multiple attacks so they have to exhaust the token, then forcing them to burn on subsequent attacks if you make a killing shot.

Also, if you can angle it right, a squadron can be in two different arcs.

Intel officer works.

Intel officer works.

I love the fact that Intel Officer works on them

First time I played Armada (intro game with a friend), I felt that that Scatter token made Howlrunner nigh unkillable.

But that's hardly the case. A typical X-wing attacking Howlrunner (or any other Scatter-squadron) will get an accuracy on most attacks. Goodbye Scatter.

Damm been forgetting to use accuracy dice one squadron. Thought only hits counted

Same, I didn't know accuracy worked against squadrons ! The Rebel player yesterday might have dispatched my Mithel after all...

this thread is awesome.

I can not remember the last time I got to use my scatter with Howlrunner. In all the games I have played only been able to use it once or twice.
