Gearing up for solo game, needing some hints

By Bakkoon, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hello!

I am currently preparing for a solo dark heresy adventure that I am going to take part in. The adventure/campaign will take my character from Rank 1 to Rank 4 and I have access to all books except that Lathe Masters/Crimson Guard/Adepta Sororitas is forbidden.

Now I was wondering what the best choice would be for that kind of game. The following requirements are in place for my PC: Being able to hold my own in a fight as well as being able to get contacts/henchmen on my side to compensate for the fact that I am not in a party (I will have to travel alone occasionally, though)

Now I was thinking to pick a combination of the following: Scum/Cleric from Gunmetal/Noble Born/Tainted Blood of Malfi. I am not sure if those choices are good choices and am struggling to decide between those. Maybe someone could give me a few pointers what they would think are the best choices to play in that kind of solo game?

Thanks in advance!

I think first you should define the character concept and only then choose the class/origin/background options.

A character that should be relatively good in a fight, but who also doesn't look out of place when travelling alone, and who is working for the Inquisition? Personally, I'd suggest a Bounty Hunter based on the Scum-class using the Gunslinger package from Inquisitor's Handbook. Perhaps this old GW-website can offer you some inspiration for the character's background, too.

A Missionary using the Cleric-class would also fulfill the first two requirements, but personally I don't see them operating solo once they've been recruited by an Inquisitor.

Well regarding my background I thought of a girl who was spared nothing and she had to deal with murder and corruption all around her since she was very young, most likely deep down in a hive world, though this would also work if she was born into a depraved and corrupt noble house but I think ultimately I will go with the lower hives because I have played noble born characters a bit too often.

I really like the idea with Metallican Gunslinger, though I don't like being pistols only so I thought Hive Gunmetal and for increased flexibility I'd grab Recalimator (no loss in social abilities but a wide selection of tchnological abilities should do wonders for any solo-operation in a hive/ship/*any other place that some form of technology*. I hope these choices are solid and am kind of wobbling in between a lot of useful background packages that would all fit. Considering the fact she grew up in the dark places of the hive she could be any of the following (in my opinion): Warp-Touched (it would fit all the depravity and mockery of the human form she has been in contact with), hive gang member (She was most certainly in a gang at one point), underhive merchant (hey, if you scrounge through old tech and have decent social skills why not sell some stuff?).

Well as a solo PC, being limited to handguns only isn't that bad. Because if you run into something requires heavier firepower, you should either be able recruit allies or avoid it. Honestly if you are carrying more the 1 or 2 Talon Mark III autopistols and well you are Malfi a Mono Bolo Knife for when you need to make a point. :D

I like the Scum, but even though you have played the noble you said to often look at her as product of the Tainted Blood of Malfi, and look at her family as being Underworld Connected and her being raise in Hive Gunmetal, I like taking the Reclaimator for Tech Skills, but the background of Sibellus Scrounger could work. Also look at the background if you want to explain why you are working along, Proven Innoccent background. The 1 advantage the noble background gives you is starting Thrones as your going to be alone, you will need gear.

The only problem here being nobles can't take the reclaimator alternate career rank (or anything related to gunmetal or sibellus scrounger either, honestly noble scums are truly castrated in terms of carrer specific background packages and ranks they can take).

But I think my final choice is going to be Tainted blood of Malfi with Proven Innocent, though what I am looking at right now is also instead of making a scum maybe a Warden of the Divisio Immoralis? Any thoughts on that? I think the big hit would be in the area of sociality, as I am not going to get Charm or Deceive for quite some time, though backstory wise it could also fit because they operate alone, but I am a bit unsure.
