Help deciding a list

By Bobbs3k, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I've got three different builds that I'm looking to use at a tournament coming up, not sure which one to go with so I'll post the lists, and if anyone has any thoughts or ideas they would be greatly appreiciated.

List 1. Empire - 100 points

Kath Scarlett with VI, Mangler Canon, Engine Upgrade, and Tactician

Soontir with PTL, Auto thrusters, stealth device and royal guard title

Dark Curse

List 2. 99 points

Kath Scarlett with VI, Mangler Canon, Engine Upgrade, and Tactician
Carnor Jax with PTL, Auto thrusters, stealth device and royal guard title
Dark Curse

List 3.

Kath Scarlett with VI, Mangler Canon, Engine Upgrade, and K-4

Syndicate Thug with Ion cannon turret btl title card, r4 aggromech
Syndicate Thug with Ion cannon turret btl title card, r4 aggromech

The theory behind the two empire builds is using both tatician and Kath's pilot ability to stress the hell out of ships to either deny them actions, or to make their movements easier to predict since they'll want to go green. At range 2 either arc there is the potential to double stress an opponent, but front arc is even better since of the auto crit roll up. Then Soontir does Soontir type things or Carnor is around to deny tokens at range 1 hopefully screwing things up no matter where you are. Dark Curse well I had a small amount of points left, and I like his ability because it can make him harder to take out. the Carnor build gives me a better chance at initiave but other than that they've flown pretty well

The idea behind the Scum build is that either front or back arc I'm firing at least 4 dice, K-4 is giving me the free target lock so I can either evade or focus depending on the situation. The Y-wings with the title card give me more chances to attack, and it's always fun to ion ships off the board or onto debris. The y-wings can be pretty tanky as well so while I sacrifice the manuevrbility of the Empire build I'm giving myself more hit points to work with and more fire power. The empire build is more annoying and harder to hit though.

Fel with PTL, Autothrusters, and Stealth is a proven quantity. He's bloody dangerous, if your opponent can't abuse his limited-to-greens dial.
Jax with the same... That's going to take some work.

Fel loves being at Range 3, using Autothrusters to mitigate a high expectation of 3 damage per incoming attack, while also enjoying the native Arc-Dodging madness of Range 1.
Jax doesn't get as much survival at Range 3, being that he doesn't get the free Focus to combine with it, but absolutely abuses at Range 1, due to his ability and his arc-dodging.

In such a Re-roll heavy Meta (with Predator and Lone Wolf being espoused in almost every list), Jax at Range 1 is likely to force them into defensive actions... which makes them harder to kill.

But... this also makes Kath more likely to have her Crits negated, stressing them, finishing the action-removal job.

Imperial Kath is great in this metagame, what with the prevalence of Fel and IG-88.

However, this metagame also includes a lot of Falcons, B-Wings, and Decimators, which means that she essentially has no pilot ability.

So what's a girl to do?

I'm putting my ideas together in a ramble as a new thread. I'll link it ::here:: when I'm done with it.

Hmmmm...

I think Dark Curse + Jax might be overkill. Him and Kath stressin' folks out does sound mighty tempting, I'll be honest, as you can leave people fighting to keep off stress with predictable greens only to have their actions rendered moot. Dark Curse, however... him and Jax just don't strike me as syncing up. Folks will simply ignore DC and kill the other two, probably looking to drop Jax first.

So, much as I love Carnor Jax and would love to see him get more attention from the meta at large (seriously, his whole thing can work as a potential hard counter to Soontir Fel or C-3P0, or at the very least a soft that frequently forces people to boost away from where they'd prefer to be), I think the Soontir list is the better bet. You leave the enemy trying to tag the ever-impossible to hit Soontir Fel or trying to chew through the Firespray while Fel (and DC) hit em' from the flank. Money says they go for Kath first...

Though another option maybe to take the Jax list and replace DC with, say, Backstabber. If he can follow in Jax he could deal some nasty damage, with Jax and Kath synergizing to deny actions all over. And hey, Backstabber can actually do OK damage and will also benefit from having Jax around.

EDIT: OH, and if you want to be really nasty, you could use the Soontir list and simply drop the Tactician +VI/or downgrade the TIE to Night Beast and give Kath a Rebel Captive. Want to shoot at Kath to stop the Mangler-induced stress? Take stress! Or shoot at Soontir Fel, who you will never, ever hit.

Don't have a shuttle but the rebel captive idea is certainly intriguing. Might see if someone will let me borrow one. Thanks for the input
