Ten & Etahn plus ?

By WarriorPoet, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, Jo Jo's thread "The Numb" got me thinking about using Ten instead of Keyan in a list I've been designing for a couple months now (with minimal actual playtime...):

Maybe this:

Ten (VI, Mangler)

Etahn (PTL, Advanced Sensors, R2-D2)

Green (Chardaan refit, PTL, Autothrusters)

100 points

Played my Ten Numb, Corran, and Gold w/ ABT

...

I might sub out the Y-wing for a Prototype with a Procket. It will be considerably faster and a better blocker. Also the Procket will give people pause and provide good burst damage. Alternatively I could go with a Green w/ PTL and Refit. Haven't decided.

... And I've come up with the following three options I'm trying to decide between. I like the idea of having A-, B-, and E-wings in a list, and the backbone of all of this is Ten and Etahn.

1. Ten, Etahn, GSPs

Ten Numb (B-wing, 31)

Etahn A'Baht (E-wing, 32)

•Veteran Instincts (1; could be given to Ten instead)

Green Squadron Pilot (A-wing, 19)

•Chardaan Refit (-2)

Green Squadron Pilot (A-wing, 19)

•Chardaan Refit (-2)

At 98 points, this gives a good initiative bid and provides 4 ships with 2 high-priority targets and 2 end-game ships. Or, I could:

• give one of the Green Squadron Pilots Autothrusters or A-wing test pilot and VI or something else; or,

• give Etahn or Ten FCS or Flechettes; or,

• give Etahn Autothrusters

However, I don't like flying nekked, so I'm considering dropping a Green and swapping the other for a different ship, and then adding some upgrades:

2. Ten, Etahn, and Gemmer

Ten Numb (B-wing, 31)

•Veteran Instincts (1)

•Ion Cannon* (3)

Etahn A'Baht (E-wing, 32)

•Veteran Instincts (1)

•Fire-Control System (2)

•R2-D2 (4)

Gemmer Sojan (A-wing, 22)

•Chardaan Refit (-2)

•Autothrusters (2)

•A-wing Test Pilot (0)

•EPT:

Outmanoeuvre (3)

Predator (3)

Push the Limit (3)

I like having some control mechanism in this crit-generating list, so an Ion cannon on Ten (or Flechettes on Etahn and dropping Gemmer's EPT to Veteran I or another 1-pointer) is highly appealing. I think Gemmer's pilot ability and Autothrusters should make him exceptionally survivable and annoying in the endgame, especially with any of those EPTs I'm trying to decide between.

3. Ten, Etahn, and Jake

Ten Numb (B-wing, 31)

•Veteran Instincts (1)

•Ion Cannon* (3)

Etahn A'Baht (E-wing, 32)

•Veteran Instincts (1)

•Fire-Control System (2)

•R2-D2 (4)

Jake Farrell (A-wing, 24)

•Chardaan Refit (-2)

•Autothrusters (2)

Jake darts around with a focus token and free barrel roll while Ten and Etahn line up shots and knock 'em down. 98 points gives me a bid for initiative, or I could give Ten Flechettes (or Etahn; I just think that would make him the clear first target). Or shoot, give Jake a 2-point EPT.

*I currently don't have access to a Mangler cannon, so it's Ion, HLC, or Autoblaster for now.

an easy flight of three

Ten Numb + Mangler (35)

Etahn A'baht (32)

Wedge + Lone Wolf (31)

I flew Ten and Etahn together and Wedge off by himself to start and figure out where the other guy was going to fly, then either gang up on one ship at a time, or use Wedge to take out any flankers.

Mangler Cannon on Numb makes him a self contained combo. Buy or borrow one if at all possible. If not, do you have 'Heavy Laser Cannon'? That would be my next 'got to' with Etahn at your side. A 3 ship build gives you lots of options. Based on my very limited experience (2 games with this theme) I would like Numb to be a bit more durable against red dice. Jo Jo suggested 'Draw Their Fire' on Etahn which sounds good. 'Wingman' doesn't

directly help but can it does aid Numb's maneuverability. Airen Cracken is a good choice for 'Wingman'.

How about something like this it puts 4guns on board r2 to help durablity fcs frees up actions.
