Announce the next EotE book already!

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Even I, the ultimate optimist, am starting to grow impatient now!

Yeah, things sure are dragging out. I'm guessing they're holding back their announcements for GenCon.

On a positive note Gencon is a couple/three weeks early this year.

Or they are being smart and not announcing until they are certain they have the materials at a certain place in their pipeline. Frankly, they now have 3 different lines all running and only so many people at certain levels to handle things like editing, layout, as well as dealing with scheduling with the printers for when things can be put into their pipeline.

Realistically they can announce it coming out next January, it is the lack of announcements that makes it feel like it is being ignored/forgotten.

A) the last book for EotE was Fly Casual and that has only been out for a few months. B) FFG is spinning up the third line and it has 3 items coming out (beginner's box, core book, GM screen) with a 4th in the pipeline (adventure). Only 1 item is currently in the works for the second line. So, apparently 3 months of no new announcements results in someone bitching that the line is being ignored/dead... sigh...

I feel I need to elaborate.

I am not telling FFG they're doing it wrong nor do i feel that I am the one who is an expert on releasing RPG books. I am not thinking the line will be discontinued or forgotten.

I just want to know what book will be next. :)

I want the next book to be one of the two remaining Career books. While I don't think the EotE line will "die", I am a bit worried about indefinite delays on the splat book because of the new, shining core book. That said, I believe FFG is doing a pretty fine job with this franchise so far.

Missing the projected quarterly release for books is par for the course with RPG publishing. Books will be released, just not when the publishers say they will be released. I imagine once Force & Destiny is released and Strongholds of Resistance (or whatever it's called) is at the printer, we'll see another Edge announcement.

I imagine the book production pipeline is lengthy due to the high-end art generation. Some artwork gets recycled between the board, card and role-playing games and I've spotted a handful of Ralph McQuarrie art pieces, but we're still looking at 30 or so pieces of new, full-color, painted artwork per splat. That takes a lot of time and if any artist misses a deadline it backs everything up.

If you want a good-looking book, and FFG Star Wars is literally the best looking RPG book in terms of presentation (Pathfinder is a close second and has a much bigger production staff), you pay for it in time and money.

The 3 F&D books are "On The Boat" while the AoR book is "In Development"

Chronicles of the Gatekeeper is currently At The Printer.

I really want it to be the Bounty Hunter Sourcebook

They heard us! its a new adventure.

They heard us! its a new adventure.

There's our solution, folks: get DanteRotterdam to make demands! :D

I really want it to be the Bounty Hunter Sourcebook

So do a lot of people. But if FFG sticks to its pattern, we will probably be the Technician career book before the Bounty Hunter book.

What pattern is that?

Support career (Explorer), combat career (Hired Gun), support career (Colonist), combat career (Smuggler)...

If the pattern holds true, the next career book is the last remaining support career, Technician.

I wouldn't call the Explorer a support career, nor the Smuggler a combat career at all... Unless you think Fringer, Pilot, Gambler and Charmer are combat characters of course.

I would. The Smuggler career book literally introduced High Noon-style shoot out rules along with Wild West archetypes. When your book has character instructions on how to draw down on someone in a cinematic fashion, you're a combat career.

So because it has 1(!) gunslinger spec it is a combat career?

Then how does the Marshall fit in? Or the Big Game Hunter?

Pilot is def a combat spec. Scoundrel is certainly weighted combat. Although overall perhaps hybrid career would be a better descriptor of Smuggler.

If pilot is then so is Driver...

Also, I do not agree with your assesment of it "def" being a combat spec.

My point is that the careers in this system aren't confined to the traditional roles so much as they were in other systems.

2/3 of the Pilot tree talents are directly related to combat. Most of the rest are dual use, but definitely combat oriented. Overall flavor of the tree is to make it harder to be hit, take a second action during structured play, which is FFG talk for combat, or hit harder during combat. Pretty much makes it a combat spec in my eyes.

Half of the Scoundrel tree is combat talents, although half is more utility social stuff.

6 to 8 (if I am being generous) out of 20 is not 2/3rd.
