Eldritch Nexus - discard or use as domain?

By player673924, in CoC Rules Discussion

Hi, I have a question about the card "Eldritch Nexus" - Core set F154

The text states " Action : Gain a Domain, then attach the top card of your deck to it as a resource."

Does this mean you use "Eldritch Nexus" as the Domain marker or do you use a spare card as the Domain marker and you then put the Nexus in your discard pile?

I feel that the card should be discarded and a spare card used the Domain marker.

Thanks.

Andy.

The second option is the option to consider. Imagine you yuse a recursion card on your event .... You'll need to have it on the discard.

While I play the Nexus in my deck, I tend to have 2 extra Domains markers in the wallet !!

You have rules for that (p. 14) :

"Some effects in the game allow a player to add additional domain
cards. When a player adds a new domain, he simply draws the top
card of his deck, looks at it, and then places it face down next
to his existing domains. That card is now considered a
domain card and loses all other identification and
game functions. Resources can be added to the
new domain during the resource phase (and
via card effects) as if it were a normal domain
card. "

1) you play the nexus

2) you draw the top card of your deck, this card is now a domain

3) you draw the top card of your deck and attach it as a resource to your new domain

4) you discard the nexus.

When you add a new domain you must take the top card of your deck, not looking for a card outside the game in your cardbox for example.

Back in the days of the old forums for the CCG, I'm fairly sure there was a ruling that for Eldritch Nexus the event card itself became the new domain (upside-down, of course) and that a card was then taken from the deck as its first resource.

But, since there's nothing to that effect in either FAQ nor the rules that I could see at a quick glance, it looks as though I've been playing it wrongly for a while and that Dadajef is completely correct. Two cards off your deck and the Nexus goes to your discard pile. There you go.

Thanks for the clarification.

I was not sure as there is another card that lets you create a domain which has explicit instructions on it to take the top card from your deck and use it as a domain and the nexus does not have that. This lead to me overthinking things and getting confused :D

Cheers.

Andy.
