Tie Advanced Upgrade
No you can choose to.

or buy the singles for 30 when they inevitably go on sale on ebay.
In a tourney yes. At your house or a friends or on vassal no
You have to pay $100 MSRP for the raider to make your tie advanced relevant in a tournament setting.

Nah you can easily find it for $70 and $10.
Yes. I did, and I'm a better man for it.
I also used the opportunity to buy another Most Wanted pack and an extra Y-wing to get free shipping. When I receive my Raider (which will go on my office desk) I will get the twin benefits of having my Tie Adv.'s become relevant to the game for once, AND being able to play a 4 Y-wing Scum list.
Pretty cool beans if you ask me.
Naw. You get 4 Tie Advanced titles free when you spend $100 on the _awesome_ Raider kit.
Not to mention you get palpatine.
Palpatine will be a meta-force in this game. There's no reason not to take him.
Plus, epic is just fun.
You don't have to there are other fighters out there to fly.
Also if you wait six months there will be price reductions and sales to take advantage of.
Appreciate the responses. Well I guess this darth vader loving yet frugal guy will have to cry himself to sleep.
steal borrow from your friends
I found someone on these forums who wanted an extra Raider but didn't need the extra cards. I don't play Epic, so I only want the cards not the Raider. We're splitting one. Win-win.
Assuming the TIE advance will be in the top meta of the torunament.
Right now while the Raider will help there are a number of reasons why the TIE advance fix won't fix the TIE advance. It still has a fairly mediocre dial and is bound by firing arcs. It only has 5 hit points. Even with a sensor slot it is still only 2 firepower and can easily be outpaced by HLC.
This sort of falls into the same criticism that C-3PO had with the Tantive IV. You had to pay $90 for that single upgrade card. Say what you want about the Raider pack but along with another TIE advanced model it also gives you a C-3PO like upgrade and enough upgrades to equip 4 Tie Advances (the most you can have in a 100 point squadron) in a single purchase.
If you look at Say Rebel Aces in order to get a full 100 point squadron of chardan refits you would have to buy 2 packs. Same for Imperial Aces if you wanted enough PTL but did not want to buy any rebel scum A-wing packs. Yes it is pricey but I have found X-wing to be the most affordable table top miniatures game to date even when comparing it to other miniature games before they got inflated in price.
So will there be an advantage for players that have bought the Raider over other players. Well only if everyone is playing TIE advances or even playing Imperial. If you play Rebel or Scum then it won't make any difference if your opponent has the TIE advance fix, and you don't.
Now if you plan on playing Imperials and want the TIE advance fix, it is a miniatures game after all and you will have to plan on making purchases for what you will need. It was never going to be cheap to begin with, even while being the cheapest game.

You don't HAVE to. Vader is pretty darn fun already.
Guess I'm a weirdo that wants the raider for the raider. The upgrades etc are gravy,

Technically, you're paying $80 to make THREE of your $15 TIE Advanced relevant.
Palpatine will be a meta-force in this game. There's no reason not to take him.
The reason to not take him is that there are no TIEs with 2 crew slots.

but that's a mediocre reason at the very best

Do people forget that the Raider also includes its own TIE Advanced? Now if you already own more than one Advanced then why are you crying about buying the Raider if the upgrades are all you want? You've already demonstrated that you don't care about the overall value of your minis because that second Advanced, much less a third or fourth, was just throwing money away already.
At least when it includes its own Advanced the Raider isn't such a terrible buy for those of us who only have Vader (the others don't really count do they?) but after the upgrade becomes available may actually try to fly multiple Advances.

It's the ONLY reason that matters!
maybe if you're pretending to be a coachhorse
Welcome to capitalism!
I, for one, welcome our FFG overlords. Shut up and give them your money.
How To Buy A Raider On A Budget:
1) Watch for sales. I got my Tantive for about $60 online through Amazon by waiting long enough.
2) Ask for store credit. My family fuels my hobby with Amazon gift cards. It pairs well with #1.
3) Save up. I've been buying $10 store credits each week for the last two months at the local FLGS in anticipation of the Raider. I'm only about $15 short now. Easily doable by the time the boat docks.

Maarek has a good ability it's just the odds of getting a crit on two dice is low, post raider he becomes scary at ps7 he`ll hit after shields are stripped letting him use his ability regularly, juno is going to be awesome and none of the others are bad.
