An Idea for an EPT in the Dice Modification Step

By ArdusKaine, in X-Wing

I know cards like Lone Wolf of Predator exist to allow re-rolls, but I was thinking something like this might be nifty:

Foresight (2)

When defending or attacking, you may instead modify your dice after your opponent rolls AND modifies his or her dice.

Really it's just token insurance, and we need some better 2-point EPTs. This way if you roll two Focus results on defense and your opponent blanks on attack, this ship can save its tokens.

Conversely you could see if Soontir rolls four Evades before turning your four eyeballs to hits.

Thoughts?

That's actually pretty good. I like it for 2 points.

This seems like it purely benefits the attacker.

At the moment it does, but so do Predator, Opportunist and Outmaneuver :P

I worded it that way in-case some other upgrade were to come out that changes order of rolling or modification.

I suppose my next criticism is it seems too strong in general, especially for 2 points. It basically makes the defender helpless vs. the attacker who has any dice modification. If you have an evade token and they roll eyeballs or have a target lock you either don't use it and get punished or use it and they keep their modifier. It makes every attack basically impossible to correctly defend against.

For an EPT, no. It needs to be s Sensor Slot item or something similar.

Fair points, but that is what I intended for the card to do. What would you suggest for a point cost?

Really the idea is just to save tokens for future attacks against you. I made it cheaper because I feel like it'd most benefit the new mid range PS generics with an EPT.

Foresight+Sensor Jammer on your own ship might get a little wild...you could turn attacking enemy's hit result into a focus result, even after they spent the focus token, or re-rolled with a TL....every time.

EDIT

Corran + Foresight + Sensor Jammer + R2F2 + Stealth Device

Expensive, but that's 5 defense dice as well as -1 hit per attack(!!!!!)

Or, switch it to R2D2 so you can take BR or Evade actions. Might be a little much as an EPT

I like it.

I like the idea, but it seems better suited to a high-PS pilot ability than an EPT. Also I would just have the defender roll and modify their dice before his attack dice.

just say: You choose in which order dice are rolled and modified in an attack.

Well, I don't want it to purely influence attacks. As Cody mentioned, Sensor Jammer pairs well with it. R7 does, too, on X-Wings.

Luke could be potent:

Foresight

R7

TL the opponent, force them to modify everything, THEN re-roll it all.

Mostly I think it needs to be an EPT so that it can't be added to other EPTs.

What it really does is psych out the defender, and thereby potentially gaining the benefit you mentioned. For instance, you have a focus token and you roll 3 focus results and a hit result against Soontir at Range 2, we'll say with an HLC or a Phantom or the like with 4 attack. Soontir has been damaged already, but has a focus token and an evade token remaining after his attack. He rolls two focus and an evade. He is afraid that you will spend your focus, so he spends his own focus and evade tokens to get four evades. Then, you may choose to spend your token on your attack or not to spend it. In this case, you choose NOT to spend it, because you can't punch through his evade results. Then, your wingman takes a shot against a Soontir with no tokens.

I like it. Its bait, and I like good bait.

I like it. But at 2 points it may need a negative effect. Like the stress from opportunist. Or maybe decrease your agility by one on the next attack.

2 point epts are good and it could make the a-wings good which is needed since they could take predator too.

But to keep it at 2 points I think it might need a negative side effect. Or make it once per round.

Definitely make it once per round.

I think this is a great concept but agree on the pricing issues.

Once per round is almost a given but when most ships only get one attack per round and attacking is when this is most likely to get used I'm not sure if that would be a big drawback. As a Defender you get the 'last say' in everything except modifying your opponent's attack and while there are a few things that can do that I don't believe they would draw using this away from modifying an attack after Defense is done.

I know it wasn't my OP, but a suggestion: how about, to keep the price low, you cannot do it while stressed, and if you spend a token to modify after your opponent, you receive a stress token?
