I think this is an awesome basis for a list. I think it all comes down to having the right grunt ship to draw fire away from the palpmobile and deal solid damage though. You could take Rhymer with APT, a Scimitar with proton bombs, a generic phantom with SPA, or a buzzsaw shuttle with gunner and vader.

Carnor Jax is an amazing ship for the end game because of his ship and ability, and I love the way he combines with the jammer.

Its too difficult to break down how I've flown the list, there are a lot of variables and its not an easy-button, but it just works . You fly it the same way you'd fly a 2-ship build and make the opponent choose to gun for the shuttle, gun for Jax+co, or split up and take on both. If they choose Jax, he can just go to work arc-dodging and doing Interceptor things with Palp helping him out. If they go for the Shuttle, Jax flanks and gets free shots while they plink away. If they split, it will take at least 2-3 rounds to even be in range of the shuttle due to they way its flown, in the meantime Jax can outrun B's and come in to help out. By the time B's have decent shots, they're halfway in the corner of the board and the Shuttle chooses a good time to bump or fly past. Thats a general idea, but the basic strategy is "Give them no good options", and its worked so far. I'm gonna try out Strom+opportunist next to see if I like that better than Vader or Fel.

*Edit*

Also, keep in mind that B's are limited to 2-k's. The Shuttle is actually an amazing counter to them, especially if you have initiative. At Range 1-2, you can do a 3 or 4 forward and bump, denying them shots. They are unable to K-turn past the Shuttle's large base. Bumping is one of the best defenses for the Shuttle, and with Palp, it can still contribute even if it doesn't get to fire a shot. Again, the key to the list is just flying it well. If everything works, it REALLY works.

I can't wait for palpatine. The shuttle mobile with him and two aces is going to be so much fun! Really looking forward to trying it out in my league ^_^

Make sure to trade your 181st Interceptor for a 2nd Royal Guard Interceptor if you only own one Aces pack though. You gotta match!

Funny that you guys are talking about this today, when this is my homebrewed list I'm bringing to my league tonight

Captain Kagi

Sensor Jammer

Rebel Captive

Engine Upgrade

Carnor Jax

AutoThrusters

Royal Guard TIE

Stealth Device

Turr Phennir

Veteran Instincts

Autothrusters

Royal Guard TIE

Stealth device

Kagi Is nice for the knee-jerk reaction to do a target lock instead of focus, well it has to be on the shuttle, but if you can hit the shuttle, you'll get one less hit and stressed for doing so. He is also a good answer for Fire Control Systems, because even if they shoot at an interceptor, they end up with a target lock on Kagi. I played 3 games with him on a casual night a month or so ago. Kagi Never died.

*UPDATE*

I brought this list to the league, which was enforced 3 round limit. went 2-1. The two Wins were 100 point wipes. the loss i was down to Turr Phennir and only killed Biggs.

Placed 3rd out of 16!

1st Game

Opponent

4x Blue Squadron Pilot w/ Accuracy Corrector

This was the kind of list I was fearing, but turned out not too bad. I got in there with Carnor pretty aggressively, so the focus actions weren't happening. Kagi was keeping their target locks busy, but before long, he was crashing into them, keeping them from getting a good shot off. Sensor Jammer was working great, Rebel captive was keeping some of them from turning or k-turning to hit the interceptors. Turr phennir was dancing around.

100-0 Win.

*Note, although 1 or 2 would be stressed, I think More aggressive maneuvers or barrel rolling would have helped him in a few cases, but he didn't do much red maneuvering or rolling.

Game 2

Fat Chewie

Corran w/ FCS R2d2

* After this game, I found out that Fire Control Systems still goes on the ship you shot at, even when Kagi is around. It only happened once during the game, and wasn't a game breaker by any stretch

This one was pretty straight forward, kept interceptors out of Chewie's arc, hammered Corran quickly for 2 rounds, concentrate on Chewie.

100-0 Win

Game 3

Bandit squadron Pilot

Gold Squadron BTL-A4 w/ Ion, R3-A2

Biggs

Wedge w/ Draw their Fire + R2D2

Wedge w/ Draw their Fire? Ok, I get it with biggs. So I figured I'd push hard to get Carnor jax behind them early, and force turr to approach close and boost past after shooting. That was the plan, anyway. I was a little too agressive with Carnor, and he ended up in his whole squad's firing arc. One Shotted in the first exchange. Ouch. Tried luring some of his ships away with the shuttle, leaving less for turr to deal with on his own, and it worked somewhat, but the only ship i destroyed was Biggs. It ended up going to time, and my shuttle lasted until the very last round. Turr Survived.

2 People ended Undefeated, and luckily my margin of victory was enough to get me 3rd place! I'm very happy with my squad's performance, and was proud to take this odd squad as far as I did. I'll most likely be playing it next time.

I'd probably take Hull over Autothrusters given Jax's love of Range 1.

If I was going 1vs 1 with a B-wing, maybe. With the exception of that 3rd fight, Autothrusters generally save me at LEAST 2-3 hits a game.

Bad Matchup vs RAC. Sensor Jammer actually works against you vs him. But I like the idea. its going to be interesting to see how and when people use him.

Sensor Jammer also says "may" not "must". So if you don't want to use it against RAC, you don't have to.

If RAC rolls one focus and one hit naturally, I would still use it because it will deny him a hit against the shuttle.

Yea. SJ tends to generally work well against large bases due to their tendancy to boost and rely on Predator. Either they don't boost, or they lose 1 damage, another denial tactic of the list.

So the more I've been using him, the more I'm starting to fear that the people who disliked C3PO are going to LOATHE Palpatine. I've run at least a dozen games with him in varying builds, and have yet to lose a match with him.

The particular starting loadout I've been using for him is as follows:

Kenkirk

- Determination (to protect his pilot ability and mitigate some damage)

- Palpatine

- Ysanne Isard

This leaves 43 points to play with.

One possible combination is Vessary with an HLC and VI. If Kenkirk can pick up a TL on Vessary's target, then the combination of focus, TL and Palpatine means that you're hitting for at least three hits and a crit with every HLC shot. If you don't need him for Vessary's shot, then you have him for Kenkirk's, meaning you have another 2-3 hits and another crit depending on range. If you know Vessary's going to be taking a lot of shots, you can also bank Palpatine to use on defense instead. The downsides to this build are that you have zero points to load the Decimator out any further. The loss of an Engine Upgrade for Kenkirk is the biggest problem, as it's fairly simple for opponents to focus him down.

Thus, we have the even more disgusting combo: SuperFel.

A Soontir with PTL, AT & Shield Upgrade caps at 36 points. With the 7 points you're saving, you can not only give Kenkirk an Engine Upgrade, allowing him to arc-dodge, but you can even throw in a Proximity Mine because why not.

Soontir Fel with two guaranteed evade results and an Evade token at R3. Or one who can turn a blank red die into a crit. And he's paired with a more defensive Decimator that, on its own, is just as good at turning a blank or eyeball into a crit as Chiraneau.

I've been flying a similar squad and it has been quite successful. It's only weakness that I've faced is the DeciVader. It destroys me. I used to equip Sensor Jammer, but it just didn't do anything because nobody attacks the shuttle until the interceptors are gone. I can see Sensor Jammer if Palpatine is on the shuttle, but I just don't see the value otherwise. Did Sensor Jammer help much in your games?

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Page 7 of the X-Wing FAQ states:

"If an enemy ship equipped with Fire-Control System is at range to acquire a target lock on Captain Kagi and attacks a ship other than Captain Kagi, the target lock provided by Fire-Control System must be acquired on the defender, not Captain Kagi. If the enemy ship also has Weapons Engineer, its second target lock must be acquired on Captain Kagi.
If a ship already has a target lock on Captain Kagi, it may acquire a target lock on a different ship."

Gods. Kagi nerfed by faq. Ugh.

The lambda a now are terrible ships. IMO.

Sensor jammer was worth a good 4+ hp per game ! Especially with carnor jax in the mix
