Triton-class Frigate

By Munk888, in X-Wing

Starting off with a huge disclaimer: I'm a modeling/hobby noob! What you may see may hurt your eyes, for that I apologize.

Long story short: I got a piece of styrofoam and "pimped" it so I could introduce it into our game nights. Pictures, then stats n' stuff if you would like to read more.

Stuff used

Lot's of Gesso...could have spray painted it. The Styrofoam is not regular stuff, it's pretty darn awesome.

Used a 9 foot raver light set and E-6000 glued it all around the hanger doors.

Simple cardboard bottom for deck.

Simple paper craft for cockpit, engines, and turrets.

Not too fancy, just fun!

I like the frigate size...storage is a bit of a pickle, but it's awesome to have all the little fighters swarming the beast.

:)

Love the idea, needs a bit more work tho :>

That's sweet. I could float that in the bathtub with me.

Sure, it's a little rough, but with some trimming and some plasticard it could be pretty impressive! I love what you did with the lighting, and kudos for improvising something awesome out of free packing materials.

Heheh thanks guys! It is totally rough. I'd like to do more lighting in the hanger, clean up the paint overall, plasticard the places that scream "noob" and maybe light up the bridge. With baby bonding vacation coming to a close, this may be something i can slowly improve over time. For now, it's a big grey piece of foam my buddies and imagine rains death on our fighters lol.

What other mods would you guys do? I'm all ears and humble as heck with how novice i am!

Well, if it were me, I'd cut off any of the "pegs" that stick through the top, or anywhere else that isn't necessary for stability. Clad the cut edges of the foam with plasticard, or given the size of the thing, with heavy cardstock such as posterboard or cereal boxes. Visit a local craft/hobby store and you'll find tons of bits that can be used for a variety of things. Specifically, some small wooden half-spheres with some tubing (or even nails) stuck in them will serve as a decent turret for this scale, and you should find a variety of other wooden pieces that may serve you as engines/thrusters or various other things. When you do your cladding, you can probably tidy up the lighting effect and create a channel to hide any excess light-strip.

If you manage that, I'm sure additional inspiration will strike! You'll be well on your way to Hobby Compulsive Disorder.

Have fun!

i mean, the lighting is cool....

but the rest is just. that looks like a building.

I love what you've done! Taken a piece of rubbish and made it something. This was always the enjoyable part of building 40K terrain for me.

Having said that. With a little more time and care (and plasticard) you could really make this thing shine. Whether you could be bothered or not is up to you.

Regardless. I loved seeing it. Thanks for sharing.

You know that is plain ugly. On the other hand, you deserve credit for just coming up with the idea. And I'd rather see a piece of rubbish be used creatively and be put to good use on the battlefield, than a thousand dollar mastepiece that no one dares touch.

Hahaha, I'm acutely aware of its ugliness hahah. What really inspired me were some of babaganoosh's missions, especially the one that calls out an off-table interdictor raining havoc on the entrapped rebels. I hope to create some of my own unique scenarios surrounding a "frigate" for our gaming group.

Cheers to all the comments, suggestions, reactions! Hahah
