map/tile choices for Nationals and Worlds

By player2052423, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Forgive if this has been discussed before.

Does anyone know what map/tile choices are to be used for Nationals at GenCon or at Worlds in Minneapolis.

At regionals we had the three choices. Are there a different three choices for GenCon or will FFG provide paper maps?

Hey Moses!

As far as I'm aware, the same three maps will be used at GenCon. Nothing has been said to the contrary.

It could be that the map list will change for Worlds in November, but that's a long way off at this point.

I emailed them your question

Reading a bunch of other posts, I believe the 3 maps were the only ones released at the time the FAQ went live (all the ones in the expansion packs were stuck on a dock). I imagine when the expansion releases that the FAQ will get an update (new rulings already spoiled in the previews), which will allow them to add in the rest of the legal expansions worth of maps to the skirmish tournament scene.

For now, though, if there's no FAQ and tournament rule update, those are the 3 maps to be used.

I can't wait!

So if this is the case will they also be releasing the maps and mission info online or will you have to purchase the packs that include these maps? I am all for changing up the maps but as a rebel player I'm not really excited about purchasing the champion and ig88 packs, just for the maps.

That was always going to be a tricky problem.

Can't wait to see how FFG fixed it.

You can buy IG-88 for lest than $10...is that really too expensive? It's not like we're talking about buying an extra core set or anything. Even if you need to buy a specific expansion that you otherwise wouldn't for a season of organized play, IA is still one of the least expensive miniatures skirmish games ever made. I remember spending $300 per release for SWM (by WotC)...and that was in addition to the maps. Regardless, even if you don't have the IG-88 pack, if you're at a tournament I don't think you'll have a hard time finding someone who would be willing to loan you their copy of the Mission Card and map sheet. I know that I've loaned stuff out at tournaments quite often. It's all part of being part of the community.

I wouldn't be surprised if FFG decided to make the pdf's of the maps available for download. But you'd still need a copy of the Mission Card anyway. So maybe they won't.

I agree, the price isn't that steep but it's just one more thing that might hold back this game from gaining a larger competitive community. That being said If I have to buy the packs to play I will don't get me wrong.

I've came up with a couple ideas wondering what you guys think.

1. FFG includes the map layouts and cards with the tournament kits. As the cost of these would be relatively insignificant.

2. They release an optional "Skirmish Season Kit" that includes the mission cards as well as the 3 maps printed on single pieces of cardboard (or vinyl) so you wouldn't have to play puzzle craft between matches. They could even have 4 different maps using two pieces of double sided cardboard. If it was going to be in use for 8-12 months I would pick something like this up in a heartbeat. I would think the price would be around the same as a larger ally pack, like the rebel troopers?

Everybody hates puzzle craft on tournaments ...

"single pieces of cardboard (or Vinyl)" would be great ... but I'd even love paper, like the HeroClix maps.

Well biv looks like a pretty fun figure to use and you will want some of ig88 command cards. There are some pretty good ones for droids we are getting r2 and c3po.

The tech lady can bring in hunters so you bring in ig88 lol.

As far as the royal guard pack it has some pretty sweet command cards for brawlers and we all know the wookiees are coming soon.

I think buying them is more than just for the maps. If your just a rebel player do you have Weiss pack since EW is needed for too tier sabs?

You can also bring in rebels via tempo

I am pretty sure you can sell off the pieces and even make more than you put into it.

Imperial Assault FAQ and tournament rules are coming, but to give players time to prepare for Gen Con (and other events), we are announcing the legal skirmish maps today. Please spread the word!
Legal skirmish maps starting July 29th will be: Moisture Farm, Kuat Space Yards, and Ord Mantell Junkyard

Hey guys I just started building the new maps and noticed that both new maps are missing tiles on the chart: Royal Guard 36A and IG88 36B. I know this has been stated before and should be addressed in the FAQ just want to give you guys a heads up now.

I'd obviously prefer #2, and from what I've heard, it sounds like most people would too.

2 weeks to go and no update to tournament rules. For those who do not frequent the boards may be surprised to learn of the new map choices for Nationals at Gencon.

The new maps don't take effect until the 29th, so the announcement will have to be some time in the next 2 weeks. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

They made announcement officially on twitter that they are changing as of July 29th. I think enough people come on the boards, Twittler, Facebook that the word got out pretty well. Its not two weeks go yet.......

FFG OP like to announce most FAQ/Tournament rules later in the week it seems. Also the Summer kit is not out but coming soon I have heard.

All things Star Wars related require approval by Lucasney. This is not a quick process. I've experienced it a few times including with articles I wrote for FFG that needed to be approved and took a few weeks before they were posted. The recent LCG FAQ and tourney updates were delayed two weeks due to the approval process. Star Wars is a complicated license compared to many others.

Reading the new FAQ it states:

Legal Maps and Missions:

Starting March 1st, the legal maps, and their accompanying missions, for the season are: Kuat Space Yards, Ord Mantell Junkyard, and Moisture Farm.

Why does it state March 1st? Has this been addressed?

The article said these would be legal from 15th August.

I think these were meant to take effect from the 29th July, in time for gencon, but a delay (probably Disney approval) prevented the FAQ from being released on time.
