Wave 1 Quality Issues

By Bensonders, in Star Wars: Armada

Sorry for being late to the party, but wave1 was released last friday over here in germany.

To be honest I was very sceptical about pricing vs quality of armada, seeing all those postings about bad paintjobs and bent Nebulons and the poor quality of squadrons in general.

My core set included a bent and only half way painted Nebulon, too.

But now, as I unpacked my wave1 stuff I got really disappointed.

The AF MK2 has a somewhat loose flightstand (3x) and my rebel squadrons are just junk.

The holes for the trees aren't drilled straight, a lot of fighters are bent and some are even broken.

I know that FFG will replace them, but honestly its bothering me.

It wouldn't bother me that much if I wasn't already playing X-Wing and was used to the fair prices and good model quality.

Armada is still cheaper than alot of other wargames out there so complaining feels kind of wrong, but I'm just expecting more from FFG.

So do we just hope that this will be fixed in later releases? (I remember that the first wave of X-wing had similar issues)

Sounds like you've just been unlucky. Apart from the unpainted Nebs, no-one at my local club has any quality issues.

One of the things that FFG seem to strive for is quality minis, so if there is a large-scale issue, I'd be surprised if they weren't trying to fix it.

The only "problems" I had was with the X-wings and the TIE-Fi that came in the core and expansion set.

I'm more inclined to think this as a random occurrence in the large volume that they produce

Can I ask a rather off-topic question? Was Wave 1 released last Friday in German or English? I don't really understand why the release of wave1 in Europe would be this delayed. Some of my local game stores (Romania) are carrying wave 1, but others told me their distributor mentioned end of July as an official release date for Europe. Hopefully they won't be bringing wave1 in German by mistake!

Oh and btw I also have some stands which stand crooked.

This is funny because one of my VSD had the engi insert fall out and was rolling around in the package.

all my ships and squadrons were accounted for and in good order(minus the meh paintjobs) but i had quite a number of flying stands in my rebel fighter expansion packs that weren't drilled straight at the exact same angle as yours

Well, then lets hope this was just bad luck, i guess. ._.

@Chlligan: The english version was available since june here in germany. The german version was set to be released on May 30., but got delayed several times and was finally released on june 31.

(funny thing: now we are under a heavy postal strike and alot of the packages get delayed even more)

I would've had no problem with playing the english version, but most of the people in my playgroup prefere the german version of the games for a better understanding, so basically I had no choice but to wait.

I've had unpainted Nebs & GSD's, bent squads and loose pegs but broken minis right out of the box is simply awful. Is the sheer number of quality issues still a result of random factory variances?

The sad thing is that we'll continue chewing on every Armada product they'll make because it's an outstanding game and because it's Star Wars.

Our club went through 24 expansions and 24 Core sets with only a single X-wing broken, and the same rear nebulon-B missing wash, but that was it. Sounds like bad luck, let them know and get it replaced.

Excellent quality all over (and I've bought far too many expansions).

Except the Neb with the broken antenna tower...but I guess I'll take the blame for that one - smashed my fist upon the poor model during my first game...exitement got the better of me :D

There is only a couple "WTF" moments in my local meta. One guy had both his VSD's and Gladiators where the flight stand goes into the model not glued in. applied some glue and he's good to go, but it was a bit disappointing knowing FFG's quality control. And another guy had one of his y-wings wings break off.

Just a question for the OP. Does your stuff get exposed to high amounts of heat? I live in texas and that can be an issue for causing some of the warpings on my fighters.

I don't know if it matters for here. But the first wave of X-Wing had more issues then wave 2 and beyond, and the reprints of wave 1 were also better.

So maybe it's just that they need to work out kinks with QA for each game?

That is a great point as the game is newer so we will see with wave 2

Germany isn't too big on the heat waves, we have like 2-3 really "hot" weeks in the year getting up to 40°C, but the average temperature is around 19°C for june and july.

But we are in the hottest week of the year right now.

So maybe it could have something to do with it, good point!

Especially if the containers stood in the sun for 1 month while being delayed.

Just drop those bent Xwings in to some boiling water and then you can bend them back into shape. I did this with my TIE's prior to painting.

I think that the quality of this new ship game is not as good as X-wing. I bought a lot of x-wing ships, and more or less they all where well painted and assembled. For armada it seems that FFG choose another place or people... I did receive also bad models and bad paintings, so I decided to buy glue, paint and try to make a better looking. I am a little bit disappointed with quality, I will buy less ships in this game...

I hope they're taking note of all the quality issues being reported to them. I'm well aware that Armada is still cheaper than most minis games but it should be also a matter of delivering what was advertised to the best of their ability and knowledge.

Would really hate ending up buying an inevitably pricey ISD that came unwashed and bendy.

It's a new product line and I guess these are teething issues. Luckily, FFG support is stellar. I've got a replacement VSD and 2x Ties --- My VSD was missing the horizontal antenna(?) bit and two of my Ties had their wings broken off. All I had to do was send an email with pictures.

I know, I know. "For the price we pay...." but having 100% no-issues is not possible. At the end of the day, however, I'm too busy playing and strategizing and scanning my game room for remote cameras or listening devices.... next thing I know the mailman was at my door with my replacement toys! :D
