Imperial 300list. Opinions?

By Geryon, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey guys, whats up?

Just putting together my list for the LGS tournament next friday and wondering what your thoughts are on this one.

If you have any advice on which objectives to use, that would also be greatly appreciated. Cheers =)

Chirneau is an officer, not a commander. You're going to need to free up some points to take... probably Motti.

Soontir really needs escorts to run with him. Even though he has a Scatter token, he still only has three hull. A quick focusing down and he dies almost as quickly as a regular interceptor

Where is the commander? Admiral Chirpy, in spite of being an Admiral, is still an officer upgrade.

For objectives on a fighter heavy list like that? Most Wanted / Hyperspace Assault / Minefields off the top of my head. Most wanted adds dice no matter what is attacking, so maximize those dice! Hyperspace Assault lets you drop your Bombers right onto the best possible location, and Minefields let you funnel your foe into a kill zone of your own devising.

So your choices if Imperial Commander's are Tarkin, Screed, and Motti.

The 2 easiest ways to tell is Commander's don't have a symbol in the bottom left and their card back does not look like a officer upgrade

This revised list still leaves me with about a 2 point bid for Initiative, Makes my Vic's a little bit tougher and helps speed my bombers up a little bit whilst still leaving them with support in the form of the three Interceptor squads and Mauler.

Now i must question wether it is wise to change the carrier Vic to a Vic1 and give it ACM's for a point reduction giving couple for the initiative bid... Although would this require me to change Motti for Screed for the extra two points?

I'm in the camp that votes no on Vics with ACM. The ship is so slow, that it's really hard to get to Black dice range, which means that the points become worthless if they never get used.

Glads have that extra speed, even without Engine Techs, which helps get close enough to fire those missiles off, but it's really going to have trouble using those things against anything except another VSD. On top of that, swapping Vic 1s for Vic 2s means losing your Medium range weaponry as well. So now, on top of hoping to get these slowpokes close enough to launch Black missile dice, you're also giving the enemy a chance to equal or outgun you at long and medium range

Vics with ACM - I find them less than useful, except if you play a lot of mirror matches against other VSDs. If you do that have some utility.

Haha thanks guys, thats more or less the response i was expecting on the Vic1 Issue. Ill save my ACM's and Screed for a glad list later down the track when i have enough of them.

Any suggestion as to which objectives would work for this list? I was thinking contested outpost seeing as i have the extra hull and some long range capability with the Vics and as for my red objectives i can see bonuses to all of them but I'm honestly not sure which would be my strongest fit with this fleet as I'm still fairly new to the game. Im assuming to go up against a few mirror matches knowing that there are a couple of imperial players there at least... Its moreso the manoeuvrable Rebel lists that I'm worried about as twin Vics isn't exactly the most agile of lists so going to suffer in pretty much any of the blue objectives.

Contested Outpost is always a good option to have in an Empire list, the VSDs don't need to worry about running around catching Rebel ships or Gladiators as they've got to come to you to push you off the station. Think about where the other obstacles are when using that one, as they'll help shield your rear/flanks. The fact you've got all those long-range bombers and fighters also means you can launch those against any Rebel ships trying to get into your rear arcs.

I'd probably take Advanced Gunnery, but mostly through process of elimination. Opening Salvo works against your large, tough ships especially when facing Rebel lists running 3-5 ships. Precision Strikes you could try, but with only 3 bombers and no Screed it gives too many options to certain lists you might fly against. Most Wanted is an option I guess. It means you can either scare off or get a quick kill against a tough, expensive enemy ship and force them to come chasing one of yours. But imagine running up against Corvette spam, giving them all a bonus against one of your ships and only getting a bonus if you can pin down one of their Corvettes.

Minefields seems to be the standard Empire Navigation objective for a reason. You can't compete on Intel Sweep and will struggle chasing down objectives on Dangerous Territory. Superior Positions could quickly turn against you if someone gets into the rear arc of a VSD, as you'll struggle to shake them off. With Minefields you control what lanes your opponent can attack you on.

With the current ships there's not a huge variety in Empire objectives, but if it works then I say stick with it.

Red: Advanced Gunnery works so well with Vic 2s that not many opponents will actually pick it.

Yellow: Contested Outpost is nice. You can get from "free" points from it AND make the opponent come to you.

Blue: With a bomber force like that you should have fun with Superior Positions - just be sure you can cover your own ass against a enemy bomber (or swarm/flanker) list. If you're uncertain, pick Minefields or Dangerous Territory. Minefields is probably your safest option.

Again, thanks for your input guys.

Looks like I'm going to go with Advanced Gunnery, Contested Outpost and either Minefields or Superior Positions. Guess it depends on what I'm up against for those last two... If there are more imperials on the night than rebels then ill go with superior positions otherwise ill go with minefields and try and funnel them into my Vic Guns =)
