150pt Tournament BBBBZZZ

By JMichael, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello everyone,

I have an upcoming 150pt multi-day tournament and am asking for any thoughts and advice on the following build.

Even 'trash those ships and take this instead' is okay!

x4 B-Wing Blue Squadron w/Accuracy Corrector

x2 Z-95 Bandit Squadron w/Ion Pulse Missile & Munitions Failsafe

x1 Z-95 Bandit Squadron w/Assault Missiles & Munitions Failsafe

At this point level I am expecting to face many lists with 1-2 large ships. The Ion Pulse missiles are primarily for them, but also for the 3 Phantom heavy lists I am expecting.

Likewise the Assault Missile Z-95 is to do some added damage to the few swarm lists that will show up.

B-Wings with Accuracy Corrector to help guarantee teh hits when I need them. I have ran them with 'Fire Control System' in the past, and while good I think I prefer the 2 hits if I roll poorly.

One thing about 150 point multi-day tourneys is that they're highly unlikely to go to time without you killing a large ship, mitigating the effectiveness of Fat ships.

Counter-play them with damage, and you should be fine.

TIE Swarms, on the other hand, are suddenly viable again. In 150 points, you can field 11 of the suckers, with one being Howlrunner.

Now, more players are likely to sacrifice some of their academies for counter-build opportunity themselves, so that's not the most probable list either. Still, something to worry about.

Your single Assault Missile is a good thought, but it might not be enough vs that list. Your B-wings will fall swiftly to such a thing.

Also, just as you thought to use ordnance to counter large ships, so might others, but they may have chosen a Captain Jonus + Cluster/HLC list, designed to melt the fatties, and one-shot the TIEs.

All in all, your list is decently solid, but you may find issues. 4x B-Wings fall to the same damage that kills Fat Ships, after all.

Thanks, DraconPyrothayan for that thorough post. I appreciate it.

In our last 100pt tourney I ran 4 B-Wings with FCS and did very well, partly due to my good formation and focused fire. The 2nd place player ran a fat VT-49 and only me and the 1st place TIE swarm player took it down.

But I do see your point that players will expect to see more large ships and bring weapons to deal with them.

Our one TIE swarm player (I also favor TIE swarms, and have considered it, but with most of the group playing Imperial I like to mix it up) only has 6 TIEs and he is probably augmenting it with 2 Phantoms.

YeeEk!

Remember that the 86 point twin-Phantom build was a top-tier list before the Decloak nerf.

That, plus 4 academies and Backstabber/Dark Curse is 150 on the dot.

If they go with something other than FCS + Gunner on their Phantoms (Very possible, mind you), they can afford Howlrunner instead!

6 B Wings, 6 Tacticians. Yesssssss

Heh! That many Tacticians would certainly help. I found that only having 2-3 was tough. Tough to get enemy ships in that range 2 sweet spot, but with 6 I you are all but guaranteed to get a few in range 2.

Minor correction- At 150 points, you can field 12 Ties including Howlrunner. Which is probably the best choice for the last 6 points, honestly (12 Academy pilots is 144 points)

Can you field 12 though? I think a lot of those tourneys cap the number of same ship types

5 and a gold with ion and stress droid would be better
