What if Ordnance didn't count towards MOV victory points?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

Before everyone gets crazy, My store uses it's own rules for tournaments that are not FFG sanctioned.

So I have documented our stores rules for ordnance(missiles, torps, or bombs) before (see my sig), but this past weekend we player a mini, 10 player tournament. Winner got newly made weapons disabled tokens.

With the rules that ordnance didn't count towards victory points when adding up MOV. Or even just points to winning the game. This forces players to try and kill other players completely to get 100 points. Which is what this game is really about

So if you squad was 90, but you had 10 points of Ordnance (missiles, torps, or bombs), then max anyone could earn on you was 90 points, unless they destroyed you completely then they got 100 pts.

If they destroyed a ship like a Z-95 for 12 points, but it had 3 points of ordnance, you only earned 12 points.

It was definitely a different feel to the games.

Here are the rules we used for this weekend.

--No points for ordnance(missiles, torps, or bombs) upgrades period.
It was a nice change to the game and nearly everyone took some type of ordnance, really made it interesting.
What does everyone think, could this type of idea work for Actual Tournaments.
Thanks,

Except for the contradiction... No points for ordnance upgrades period.... Unless you've killed all ships then you get those points

:P

It might be more interesting if you made a slight change. Players could get MOV points for unexpended ordnance. So you are rewarded for destroying a ship before it can unload (some or all) its ordnance. Conversely players would get no points for ordnance that was expended before the ship was destroyed.

That is more a function of the tournament rules in general. If you obliterate your opponent you get 100 points, regardless of how many points their squad was worth.

True, but you want players to attack the enemy. Our store owner John said, "This gives a reason for it" Hiding and running away to get a win on points, will not give you as much as someone who kills all the enemy ships.

Interesting, but a nightmare to keep track of in big games.

Did this change make any difference in the results of the tournament?

But would ordinance count?

Yes! Actually.

There were many different lists, and placement of certain lists, phat and turrets were not ranked as high. Due to move values. But really 10 people was probably not enough of a sample. However, lots of lists had missiles and torps.

Had a good time
