Frozen Spire - Ruin's rules

By rangua, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi.

Yesterday we had a really frustating game of descent because we couldn't agree to the rules governing Ruin's movement.

What the players did was to stun (and keep it stunned) the second dragon in the stone bridge so when Ruin advanced to the point where the other dragon was, its movement was blocked and players got time to clear the dungeon freely.

I sustain that since Ruin can push heroes with his advance, it should also apply for any other thing blocking its way. Of course, 4 players beat one GM so players got away with it.

Ruin's rules do not let him move through the other dragon. Eventually, said dragon should have died if the heroes were continually stunning it. Also, the stunned dragon still could have used a move action to get off the bridge, even if stunned.

What do you mean he could've moved even if stunned?

rules specify that a stunned figure may only unstun himself on that turn...

EDIT: just read this FAQ. http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/840101/common-questions-and-answers-compiling-temporary-f and it explains that the stun only takes away one action.

And no, the dragon didn't had to necessarily die, since they were stunning it using the fire flask, so no damage was being taken by the dragon.

by the way, can ruin essentialy move 2 spaces forward each time, like large base movement? or does his whole base move objectively forward one space?

There is a thread covering this already here https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/69971-some-questions/

TLDR; no, he can't. rules specify he is not affected by the large monster movement rules.

I am curious how they were using fire flask to stun the dragon. You still have to target a monsters space with the attack, and you dont get a condition from surge:condition unless you are dealt a damage.

I just want to clear up the use of the Stun condition. The card says that the only action that can be performed is to remove the Stun effect. But once the Stun effect is removed, the second action can then be utilized. It is a confusing wording on the card and I used to play it the way you guys were doing it. But even if something is Stunned, it still has two actions. The first one is just used to clear the condition.

This rule got me really stunned some weeks ago

Moreover, how were they continually Stunning Ruin if Fire Flask is a one-use item?

Classic!

Made up stat... 100% of Descent players misplayed the stun condition effect when they started playing the game.

Still, I also want to know the story of the stunning Fire Flask!

My theory is the dragon was targeted with the flask, but he blocked all damage yet got stunned anyway. The attack got a surge for blast, and since the dragon is a 2x3 monster, he was stunned 6 times, making him useless for 6 turns. If that turns out to be the case, I will shed a few tears for all the OL's out there whose heroes play that way.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. Probably a runemaster with "runic sorcery" applying the condition to the flask attack, too.

If that's the case, they were definitely playing it wrong.
