Imperial 150 point team help

By bcons, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Me and a friend will be doing a team tournament where each player gets 75 points, but one player cannot fly the same ship as the other. I seem to do well with imperial bounty hunters so I made this list

Bounty hunter 33

Engine upgrade 4

Bounty hunter 33

Engine upgrade 4

Total 74 with 1 point iniative bid.

The only problem is that we don't know the best for the other player to play with it. Between us we have 3 core, 1 imp aces, 1advanced, 2 bombers, 1 decimator, 1 lambda, 3 phantoms , and 2 defenders. Feel free to make suggestions onto my dual firespray build too. Thanks.

Engine Upgrades are nice, but the problem with Boost is that it gets more valuable the higher your pilot skill (because you can react to opponents).

Engine Upgraded Firesprays are far from bad - you can try to accelerate past someone or 'tweak' your angle to get a rear shot with them - but I wonder something else might do you more good.

The reason I say this is that it's not a 75 point squad - it's a building block of a 150 point squad. Assuming you're using a normal sized board for the games, 150 points in a 3' by 3' area starts to become crowded. There are half again the number of ships to collide with, and half again the firing arcs to try and avoid - therefore the game starts to tip in favour of jousting relative to outmanouvring people.

Recon specialists are very good upgrades for Firesprays - and you should have them (Phantoms come with them) - because you have both a decent attack roll and a decent evade roll, and enough toughness to get several turns of mileage out of them.

Also, if facing boards full of many enemies, consider area effect weaponry. A seismic charge is very cheap, but very useful when jousting with a firespray - whilst the enemy needs to K-turn past you, gaining stress and getting no actions, you can drop a bomb, pull a hard 3 turn, target lock and fire with your rear arc.

As supporting units.... I'd try and avoid a third big ship without practice, especially since it'll not be a manouvrable one. A decimator with vader wouldn't be bad, though, and give your firepray's blind spots some protection. Interceptors are nice, but you don't have access to Soontir Fel or Autothrusters, so don't expect great things from them.

Yea, you'd have enough points to upgrade your firespray to one of the higher pilots, like Kath Scarlett, Mangler, Engine Upgrade, and still have enough points for something like a shuttle with Vader, a bomber, or even Vader (Tie/Adv). Then let your partner fill in with TIEs/Interceptors maybe.

A third big ship is gonna get crowded, as mentioned, and I'd also be leery of phantoms since room to decloak might get sparse

As a final note, some of the upgrades that normally aren't seen too much can be fun in a match like this with a lot of ships zooming around. Here's looking at you Anti-Pursuit Lasers!

Your friend could always do 5 Academy Pilots and Night Beast for a mini-swarm. Might be able to work well with dual Firesprays. Dual HLC Defenders could also pair nicely, if you use the Firesprays for blocking. And a simple 3 naked Phantoms could confuse the enemy, and gives you a possible 12 dice attack.

Dang. I wrote up a really nasty 150 point fleet, and then realized you're looking for a complimentary 75 pointer.

Ah well.

You will be fielding 2 ships with a large wake. They'll want something that can react, mobilly, to your relatively low PS

You have a lot of HP, with decent mitigation. Your weakness is to pure damage, as you don't have much in the way of mitigation.

My suggestion:

Whisper

+ VI

+ Advanced Cloaking Device

+ Fire-Control System

+ Intelligence Agent

Soontir Fel

+ Push the Limit

+ Royal Guard Title

+ Autothrusters

+ Stealth Device.

75 points on the dot.

....Why yes, I am a bastard.

Your Partner could also give Whisper a Recon Specialist instead of FCS+IA, trading Damage and the ability for your Bounty Hunters to react to a target as well for the ability for Whisper to survive more heavy attacks.

Note: These 75 points are terrified of Torkil Mux, and are fairly annoyed by Stressers and Godalhi.

Your Bounty Hunters laugh heartily at both of these threats, so those matches are on your shoulders, not your friend's.

That would be a great distraction to the fire sprays, but out of curiosity, what was your 150 point build?

Echo and Whisper, each with VI, Advanced Cloaking Device, Advanced Sensors, and Recon Spec

4x Academy
