I like to easily tell between my ships. So now my Aggressors will be either to tell apart:

Not a bad try, but I'd recommend two things.

1: thinning your paints a bit. Multiple thin, smooth coats are better then a thick one that can obscure detail and - as in this case - leave brush strokes.

2: Try getting some Tamiya masking tape to help make sharper lines and corners for a checker pattern.

Sometimes I use a Gundam Marker pen to make straight lines (or fill in cracks; what it is designed for) then fill in the area with paint, especially for checkers.

Some will use a super fine Sharpie pen, but it can bleed sometimes if paint touches it.
