Dangerous Covenants Book Question "Regular Payments"

By Darth Poopdeck, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

On page 75 of the "Dangerous Covenants" book, there is a sidebar entitled "Regular Payments" which says to see chart on page 89 entitled "Hired Gun Combat Rewards".

The sidebar seems to be talking about bonus individual pay towards the Hired Gun PC (toward him and not the group), but when you start looking into the chart on page 89, it makes it seem like this might be about campaign reward for the group.

My question is, is the intent to have a Hired Gun get paid more than the rest of the group at the start of a new campaign? And is that extra pay taken from the chart on page 89? I'm just a little confused as to the "intent" of this sidebar/chart.

Page 75 talking about how you might have a situation like the hired gun PC is working directly for the crime lord/company/government on salary, possibly including being outfitted by said employer, while the other players are smugglers, techs, thieves, ect working on commission. So the GM may have to monkey with how the hired gun is paid to prevent a situation where the Merc is getting his regular salary and personally in the black, when the campaign is supposed to have the players starved for cash.

89 and the entire section that starts on that page is talking about hired gun rewards. It's talking about merc pay scales and such. If this applies to the whole group, or just the Merc character is up to the campaign.

So to answer your question, no the hired gun isn't "supposed to" get paid more unless the GM wants them to for some reason. The chart on pg 91 is just a "going rate" pay scale for typical merc jobs. So if the hired gun is being paid from that payscale, and the rest of the players are not, instead getting significantly less, the GM may want to tweak the Merc's pay to ensure it's in line with everyone else.
