I have a sudden fear of new ships.

The TIE Advanced hasn't been replaced because it never was viable to begin with, even when it was only one of two ship options. Subsequent releases had not a thing to do with why it wasn't played. In fact with the upcoming Raider the Advanced might finally see real play.

Y-wings, E-wings, A-wings, and the HWK like the Advanced were not invalidated by subsequent releases, they simply never were seen as viable options even at thier release. A-wings and Y-wings have only seen increased viability with subsequent releases.

Have to Say I won my first 2 tournaments with an all advanced, and an all y-wing list back at game release when I was doing tournaments and even now as a casual player I still compete with those ships, but then that's why with a term for anecdotal evidence.... I still see A/Y-wings and advanced as Viable E/wings and HWKs still elude me atm.

I think with armada, individual ships in a vaccum of no upgrades might feel a little like that, but I think titles will help too mitigate raw ship stats, and certain "weak" builds might do really well against the meta

The trouble with X-Wing is not new ships, but old mistakes. The X-Wing was overcosted from the start. Ordnance apart from bombs was never an option and isn't to this day. I haven't seen it in action yet, but my greatest concern with balance is the corvette swarm. In every Igo-Ugo system, having more playing pieces is a considerable advantage. With the mechanism of defence tokens, having more attacks is another advantage. What's more, corvettes outrun any fighters.

Reminds me of the tie swarm of old in X-Wing.

I fail to see how you will ever be able to blow up something as big as Home One in just 6 rounds, but that does not have to be an issue of balance.

For me, personally, the X-wing squadrons seem to have taken the route of their X-wing TMG counterparts. They get butchered by Tie swarms led by Howlrunner. They shoot 4 dice, Ties shoot back 4 dice with reroll, which is very close to 5-dice potential damage. I may be doing something wrong or just consistently rolling poorly, but I can't kill Ties as fast as they kill my X-wings. At least A-wings are strong in this game.

I am very fond of X-Wings in Armada. They are versatile. They can shoot it out with fighters and they can harm capital ships.

Winning the fighter duel is more about shooting first. AF with squadron 3, expanded hangars and a squadron command token (or Raymus Antilles). With flight controllers that's 25 blue dice. Howlrunner can howl or run.

How's it gonna be two cards? Even if I hit something, I don't see myself hitting another one n my next move....

Possibly true but you have a base that is almost half a range rulers long. That's what about range 3? So an X-Wing can't traverse bow to tail in a single turn. How do you think your 5" long by 3" wide base (what's that. . . Range 2 I think. . . Almost?) is going to handle the gradual 22.5 degree turns?

After I get done practicing with it, it'll handle turns just fine...just like the VSD, just a matter of learning it's flight and navigational parameters.

And yep, the MC30 looks to be speed 4... Which is why I'm getting a bunch of Raiders, hehe. Will definitely have to work on a counter for the 30s, looks to be an excellent ship.

What's more, corvettes outrun any fighters.

Rhymer doesn't care if you outrun him. And while corvettes can certainly outrun X-Wings, if a corvette is in range to shoot (particularly if, as part of a swarm, it's the variant with only blue dice) then it's also in range of a squadron-command X or Y assault (or As; with a 75% chance of dealing a hit, corvettes can't disregard As either), nevermind speed 4 bombers (five if corrupter).

When the ISD & MC80 are finally released, commence the ramming threads. ;)

4 to 5 MC30's :)

Those MC30s won't last long against those Star Destroyers.....

Seriously people? He put the ball on the T, and no one even bothered to hit it out of the park.

wait, are we playing golf, baseball, or starwars?

I'm a man of that certain age where everything is always Baseball or relatable to it. I'm just saying, you have got to take a swing when someone hangs a curveball.

Then swing away

Almost none of that makes any sense to me, being an Australian who has never watched a game of Baseball.

I think he said he would never field at Short Leg. :D

To think, all of those years I spent with a Helmet and a pair of Shinpads at Silly Mid-Wicket.
