PDF version of the campaign?

By tth, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hi all,

First off, been lurking here for a long time, and have used the various forums to clarify rules many times, so thanks for that. :-)

My question is, why hasn't FFG not released a PDF of the campaign rulebook, since they have of all the other rulebooks in the game? We've played the campaign many times out in my group, and now the campaign rulebook is starting to come apart, so I would really like to be able to print a work copy and put in binders (eg., http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/118001/Fellowes-Clear-Presentation-Binding-Covers-8/ ) like I have with the RRG and LTP rulebooks.

Now, I understand that there might be very good reasons for this, and I've tried to find them in the forum unsuccessfully. Anyone know why?

The reason is the same as the reason they don't post the PDF's of the skirmish maps... people could play the game with proxy figures or something, and the maps are the 'story' of the game. I think they're trying to prevent people from being able to play without buying the game (although I think that is just silliness, no one would play this game without the miniatures/cards/etc., right?)

Good point; the maps is what FFG's considers the proprietary value of their IA franchise. In my IA group, we have made a few campaign missions ourselves, but it is pretty hard to make them so both sides have an equal chance of winning (ie., only luck of the dice making the difference), even with both sides playing the optimal strategy, especially if the mission is played later in the campaign. So I do recognise the hard work that went into making the maps.

Considering the cost (in time and materials) to DIY all the components, I agree that it's a bit silly to limit the availability. IMHO, the miniatures alone is worth the cost of the game, never mind the 300+ cards.

I guess I'll just have to scan&print the Campaign Guide before it completely disintegrates.

Can you put the pages in sheet protecters and then keep them in a binder?

I was actually considering that at first, but that was before the campaign guide was falling apart and I didn't want to cut it open... but now that it is coming apart at the seams anyway, it doesn't seem such a big thing to do anymore. Thanks for reminding me, I think this is the way I'll go with it.
