Man, given the amount of stuff on the table I really wish we had some way to handle all the dials, tokens, etc on a tablet.
iPad Assistant
Ummmm, I am pretty sure that would not work. There would be discrepancies between players
Nah, I can see it working. You could tap a card or defense token to exhaust it, set your command dials, tap them to reveal the next in line etc.
It'd be pretty handy, IMO. Just have your tablet sitting by the table instead of a dozen cards crammed onto your end of the board.
I wrote something like this in VB for Xwing once, for my Surface. If I ever had time, I'd be happy to try something for Armada. It'd be a lotta time, but once school starts I should have plenty. Throw out some ideas for me!
I threw together a brief video basically showing off my app to the public for the first time, just for you guys ![]()
This was all done within the first couple weeks of my VB class, so I could probably do something a little better now. It was simple but perfect.
I used physical tokens and damage cards, simply placing them directly over that cards spot on my Surface. The windows stretch, so if I was only using a couple ships at a time, they would still take up the full screen.
Edited by UnfairBananaWell, way I see it is it would be a list builder, and then once in the game you could interact with your list to 'play' it.
So you'd select your ships and upgrades and fighters.
Then, prior to the game, you'd select your command dials in order for your ships.
Then, during the game there'd be a screen with your list on it. You could select a ship, which would bring up it's status screen, showing you the state of it's upgrades and defense tokens. Then you could choose whether to activate that ship or not. Then, if you activate it, you could tap it's dial to see what command you selected, elect whether to resolve the dial or cash it in for a token. Choose any other orders to resolve, tap upgrades to exhaust them as applicable, and you could tap your defense tokens as needed to exhaust or discard them.
At the end of the day I think you'd still need the ship card on the table and to use physical damage cards because both players share a deck (right?) and using a digital deck while your opponent uses the real one might skew the potential critical effects.
Both players do not share a deck. Though with cared like Dodonna, you would need real decks
Personally I'm completely against any form of digital integration into war gaming. I spend all day with the **** d things, I game so I can do something social and analogue!
Edited by Tetsugaku-SanI would quite like a helper app. I am never too sure what my opponent is doing with his dial and given that he often forgets and sets it Mid turn it would make things easier than not, he only just has the idea that an accuracy dice prevents him using a token for just that attack and it would maybe even have some of the upgrade cards FAQ text as he still struggles with the idea that screen can turn the dice to Crit/Hit as there is a hit icon on that face.
@Tetsugaku-San, we would of course have the choice to ignore it and just leave it on the App store.
