More Debris Field stuff...

By Complicit, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When a ship ends its movement overlapping a debris field, does that ship assume the characteristics of the debris field?

Scenario...

1. Ship A overlaps the edge of a debris field and incurs all applicable effects.

2. Ship B moves and overlaps Ship A but ship B does not overlap the debris field.

Does ship B suffer the effects of the debris field because ship B is in contact with ship A?

I don't see anything in the rules to suggest this would be the case, but this came up in a recent game.

Thanks!

I don't see anything in the rules to suggest this would be the case,

...and it isn't, so that checks out.

How? Why? Who? Which? Whither?

When you overlap a debris cloud, the debris cloud rules apply to your ship only.

when you overlap an asteroid, the asteroid rules apply to your ship only.

How ever, if the template overlaps the debri cloud and manages to compleat it's maneuver in full (no bumping), the ship suffers the effects, even if the overlapped part of the cloud is currently ocupied by an other ship.

Yeah  I'm pretty green. When the moment unfolded and the player involved stated the effects I was very skeptical, but I deferred and just rolled with it. Despite the twighlight zone moment it was an excellent game.

Another case of people reading more into the rules than what's actually there. If in doubt, ask them to point out the particular rule that states whatever it is they are trying to do (or make you do).

SO this brings up an interesting thought. A large ship is overlapping an obstruction. You go to move and your template overlaps said obstruction but because you bump you never get to the obstruction.

Covered in the FAQ, last page.

Q:

A ship executes a maneuver in which its template or final

position overlaps an obstacle. Due to avoiding collisions

with other ships, it ends up stopping before reaching the

obstacle. Does it still suffer the effects of moving through

or overlapping an obstacle?

A:

No.

It's actualy a bit starngely worded as it mentiones "final position" overlapps and then stopning befor due to bumping. As the final position is not reached until all bumping has been resolved, how can the final position overlap an obastacle and at the same time you bump so that you do not overlap... Oh well, I think it's still clear what the end result is :)
