My other local player is trying to argue that abilities like Evade and Focus can't be used the same turn i use PTL, since PTL puts on a stress token. Currently using it on an E-Wing; what is the community's take on this? If I can get the Evade token, but then not be able to use it due to the Stress, then what's the point? Is it just pointless to try Focus or Evade when using PTL?
Another PTL question...
Stress only prevents you from doing actions. It doesn't prevent you from spending an evade or focus token. The other local player is wrong.

He's referencing the rulebook now, page 17:
There are several factors that can cause pilots stress, such as executing difficult (red) maneuvers, (see Step 4 on page 7). While a ship has a tleast one stress token, it cannot execute red maneuvers or perform any actions (even free actions).
I think he's mistaking using the tokens as performing an action, performing an action being acquiring that token to begin with. Am I correct?
Edited by KeporaYou are correct. Stress only prevents you from taking Actions, and anything that is an action will be explicitly defined as such. Acquire a Target Lock, Assign a Focus Token, these are not actions. A focus action gives you a focus token, which can be spent at any point regardless of stress.
Alright, thank you.

Acquiring a Target Lock isn't an action??

Acquiring one (like via Fire Control Systems) isn't an action, but taking a Target Lock Action is an action.
I think most of the confusion on this comes from the rulebook, which says:
Action Tokens
These tokens mark ships
performing specific types of
actions, such as focusing,
evading, or acquiring a target lock
This makes it sound like performing an action is a long multiphase process, but in reality the token is the result of taking and completing an action. The action gives you the token. Spending the token does not constitute an action.
And 1 last note, a ship can't take the same action twice in 1 round. Meaning you can't Evade ptl Evade action.
Edited by treybertThe difference between Actions and Tokens seems to always come up from new players. Then throw in no performing the same action twice in a round, but getting two of the same token (from various sources) can get a bit confusing.
Alright, so I was correct - thank you all!
If someone is having trouble with the idea that spending tokens while a ship has Stress is perfectly fine just ask them how Fel would work. I mean it says right on his card that if he gets a Stress token he also gets a Focus token; the thing is that IF he can't spend that token while he has Stress (although we know actually can) what is the point of gaining that token in the first place?
