Here's a list I've been running to great success so far, and looking to take it to regionals, but I wonder if it's optimised?

If you could change anything about it, or identify anything you feel is a weakness, what would it be and why?

I love Leebomination too much to not urge you to take Determination over Predator.
Engine Upgrade might be better than Shield Upgrade, even with R2-D2
R5-P9 might be better than R2-D2 (Shocking, I know).

However, what you've got is good too

If you have the points and no way to give recieve free focus, R2D2 is way better than R5P9. I agree look at engine over shield. In the two ship meta, Predator is kind of pointless with FCS as you will mostly be on the same target rather than switching back and forth. Consider Lone Wold or VI on Corran, which may give you the points to upgrade your YT to Dash.

R2D2 only lets you regenerate while performing a green maneuver.

R5-P9 lets you regenerate while performing any non-red.

R5-P9 also gives you an additional chance to spend your Focus, making it better when you've already boosted your offense and defense.

Sadly, R5-P9 spends the focus before Corran's spare attack, but its your decision.

What about R2-F2 for the mech? No shield regen but an agility boost to 4. I know the green dice can abandon you at anytime but the +1 agility might be better against some builds. Definitely take the engine upgrade for Corran.

Where X=Number of attacks you must defend against in a round

3(5/8) + 3(3/8)(X-1) = Expected Damage Mitigation with a Focus Token

1+3(3/8)X = Expected Damage Mitigation with an Evade Token

4(3/8)X = Expected Damage Mitigation with R2-F2

So, let's consider the following: The more attacks you endure, the better R2-F2 is, compared to the single-use Tokens. Similarly, the fewer attacks you endure the better the single-use Tokens are. After all, if you're only attacked once, an Evade Token guarantees R2-F2's best possible result.

Therefore, we can solve to find where R2-F2 is equal to the Token, and figure out A) Which token is better than the other, and B) How many attacks you must endure for R2-F2's ability to be superior.

12/8 X = 1+9/8 X

Having trouble spending focus tokens is not a problem most of the time they are spent attacking or defending. Your argument that R2D2 locks you into green maneuvers is countered that R5P9 locks you into focus actions where it might be better to barrel roll, evade or even boost. If R5P9 were the better option I think you would seem them in competitive play. Almost every Corran making the cut at regionals is using R2D2.

Hi Brian, I am in agreement with DraconP on this one, your list is good. I like the double predator, even tho it can double up with target locked attacks from Corran's FCS occasionally, it crushes PS-2 ships and still gives you the ability to reroll 1 or 2 red dice the first time you attack a ship. Iv played vs your list 3 times now and its pretty optimal as is imo.

1) What is the (X-1) in the first equation signifying?

2) Shouldn't the first part of that same equation be 3(2/8) rather than 3(5/8) as shown? The 3(5/8) would be correct if you were combining focus+evade (2/8)+(3/8) but as shown the results would be 3 rather than 1.875. That induces an error of 1.6

Looking at the calcs, I think they're more complicated than necessary. For the 1st attack in a combat round you have:

4(3/8) for the mech for 1.5 DM per round. This doesn't change per attack.

1+ (3(3/8)) for 2.125 DM for the first attack. This with evade token. Drops to 1.125 after the first attack.

3(2/8+3/8)=1.875 DM for the first attack with a focus token. After the first attack with the focus spent the DM drops to 1.125 which is the same for the evade token after it was spent. Focus results from dice without a focus token are the equivalent of blanks.

For the number of attacks needed for the mech to out perform either a focus or evade token it's easy. For the evade token the mech is better from the second attack on. 1.5 vs 1.125. The same applies to the second attack with a focus token. Since using the mech or a token is an action only the mech's ability last the entire combat round. Considering Corran will be a prime target and will almost certainly get shot at more than once per combat round it looks like the mech is a better choice. Also, since Corran has both evade and focus he can choose which action to perform based on enemy composition, location and facing.

I'm fairly certain my numbers are correct. Please let me know if you find an error.

You are looking for the damage mitigation of each build. As the number of attacks increase, so too does the total amount of damage you've mitigated this round.

4 instances of 3/8 odds per X attacks = 4 times 3/8 times X, so 4(3/8)X. Similar logic goes through my other two formulae.

For the Evade Token, your calculation assumes that the Evade is needed on the first attack. This isn't so.

You've got three of the base 3/8 dice, and have one free cancelation, guaranteed, whenever you wish to spend it. Therefore, 3(3/8)X, +1.

For the Focus token, your calculation assumes that the Focus is needed on the first attack. This isn't so.

You've got 3 of the base 3/8 dice, excepting one attack, which you turn into 5/8 dice.

Therefore, 3(3/8)(X-1), + 3(5/8)

What I was trying to do was twofold: Figure out which was better, between Focus and Evade, and also how many attacks are needed to be survived for the bonus die to outweigh either, as my initial logic showed would eventually happen.
